Discovering Nellie McKay from TED.com of All Places

If you can’t tell from all the TED.com videos in my VodPod Collection at lower right, TED.com is my inspirational and education addiction. However, as the site theme says, I’m interested in it mostly for “ideas worth spreading”. I know they have music on the site, but they weren’t often “ideas” of the type I was interested in. However, I stumbled upon the music of Nellie McKay today and it made me laugh a great deal… enough I thought it was worth blogging about because this singer/songwriter is fabulous! That’s a compliment from a listener and singer/songwriter points of view, of which I am both. Have a listen and see if you agree!

More info about Nellie McKay can be found on her site.

.

Clonie (partial lyrics)

This song is about what Nellie thinks of having a clone could mean to her… and supposedly “the evils of science”. I’ll let her tell you the rest. Make sure you listen carefully. It’ll be hard to when you’re laughing your head off. From TED 2008.

.

The Dog Song (lyrics)

I’ll go sad on this one, although it is a beautiful tribute to her former dog, Carmello. From TED 2008.

.

A Christmas Dirge

This is a sad song but shows Nellie’s caring perspective about all the useless superficialities of Christmas.

.

Mother of Pearl (lyrics) and If I Had You

The first of these two songs has the first line of “Feminists don’t have a sense of humor”, which, according to TED, was “immortal”. I couldn’t have agreed more. So is the rest of it. And the ukulele is priceless! From TED 2008.

Star Trek Facebook Picture Tagging Meme

I know that Star Trek is a HUGE franchise that is not only big currently but also has endured the test of time and has fans as passionate as any. Yet, there are no Star Trek Facebook picture tagging meme. Are Trekkers too serious and mature to do this sort of stuff? Not hardcore enough for Trekkers who have to suit up, part fingers and utter Klingon to have fun? I like to think not, but we’ll see. I’ve made an extra large collage of 25 Star Trek characters, compared to other versions listed below with 15-20 characters mostly, because I think any Trekker willing to use this will have many other Trekkers s/he can tag. Enjoy!

Harry Potter Facebook Picture Tagging Meme

Other Harry Potter graphics on this blog:

I must say I’m very surprised no one has created one of these Facebook picture tagging memes with Harry Potter characters. Isn’t Harry Potter, like, huge? Still? Maybe I’m wrong cause that many people couldn’t have forgotten about Harry Potter, could they have? Well, we’ll see, I guess, from how many people who view and download this graphic and tell others about it. Harry Potter fans, enjoy!

Since the original posting, I have found more Harry Potter tagging posters, have enhanced them in various ways and added them to the collection.

Video of President Barack Obama Picking UNC Tar Heels for March Madness (and me, too)

It’s March Madness time in the NCAA and also my favourite time of year! It’s go play or go home basketball time, when school pride is on the line and possibly the one shinging moment for some. Below are my picks, which, I am happy to say, agree with President Barack Obama’s choice for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels (UNC) to go all the way. The President, being a basketball fan, put it front and center on his Whitehouse.gov website (link is to article as it might no longer be front and center by the time you view it).

Of course, I’m a nobody so nobody cares about my picks, even if it’s my blog you’re reading it on, so immediately below are a video of how President Barack Obama came to decide his relatively safe picks with Andy Katz of ESPN, and his official 2009 March Madness brackets… or should I say Barack-ets. Add another term to the Obonics post. My brackets follow because it’s my blog! 😛

Who did you pick to win?
(or go to Final Four, Sweet Sixteen, upsets or whatever amount you care to share in the comments)

Super Mario Bros Facebook Picture Tagging Meme

According to Wikipedia, the most sold video game ever is Super Mario Bros, whether alone or in all its subsequent upgrades. Even if you have doubts in Wikipedia, the numbers are so staggeringly wide in gap that they can’t be wrong in terms of order. Regardless, this Facebook tagging picture meme is for those fans of Super Mario Bros. I didn’t label the characters because if you play the game, you have to know the characters, whether they are friend or foe, what special powers they possess and how you can nullify or put it to use to succeed in the game. If you generally know all that, labeling the names is just wasted space.
