With the attempted siege of the US Capitol building having failed, and Donald Trump getting more desperate than ever, Vice-President Mike Pence has an opportunity to emerge from his term with the worst ever president of the United States as a hero.

For starters, Vice-President Pence has a chance to do this by resuming and seeing through the electoral vote count. He has to do this so the work gets done in the same session, so the mob cannot claim victory of having truly delayed the process. The session just ran longer than planned, but these Senators will work extra hard when they have to. This he has started, as I started writing this. Whether other minority factions in the Senate will let the process be done by midnight, we will see. VP Pence might not succeed in full, but he will be known in history for having tried to do what was right, and what was tough. I hope he will, though, and I hope he will succeed.

However, the tragic events that started today won’t end today. The potential harm in the next two weeks, until when President-elect Joe Biden is sworn in as the next President of the United States of America, is even greater as these extremists are pushed further into the corner of non-existence where they will have nothing for which to fight. They will have their identity completely stripped from them, which, like anyone else losing their identity, will fight with all their life to maintain. Sadly, these crazies will fight with other people’s lives as well, as if currency in exchange for their ideals. This is where VP Pence truly has a chance to shine and emerge a hero, despite having spent four years as the right hand man to a figure now more vilified figure than ever.

Vice-President Pence can evoke impeachment procedures to declare Trump as being unfit to rule as President, which will also forbid Trump from running for the Presidency again. It will put a fitting end to what Trump deserved for what he did to America, and minimize what he might do to it in the future. In this process, he will incite some violence in doing so, but I have no doubt that if he didn’t with these impeachment procedures, these domestic terrorists polluting Washington DC today will invent up some other cause to do so. Get them to reveal themselves one by one, and put them away as they do. Vice-President Pence might not succeed, ultimately, but he will be known in history for having tried to do what was right, and what was tough, if he at least tried. I hope he will, though, and I hope he will succeed.

Finally, Vice President Pence can practically take command in working with all the political and public service leaders willing to listen to him instead of Trump. He could save lots of lives, ease a lot of stress among hundreds of million of Americans and many more worldwide given the power at the disposal of the United States as a global power. Vice-President Pence won’t get the title or official acknowledgement as President, Acting President, or whatever the proper title is, in his leadership role over the final two weeks of his term unless Trump is impeached within the next two weeks, which won’t likely happen. However, Vice-President Pence won’t have to get that title to be a hero. The people will know. History will know. Hero isn’t a title one can get from an elected post. Hero is a title that has to be earned, and he can earn it by running the show in Washington over the next two weeks. Vice-President Pence might not succeed, ultimately, but he will be known in history for having tried to do what was right, and what was tough. I hope he will though, and I hope he will succeed.
