Titanic Fanatics… Time to Get a Life!

Living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where we have Titanic victims and history and all, the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic has been one seriously overblown melodrama in a province that thrives on traditionalism.

However, sadly for them all, the 100th anniversary just past yesterday and now it all will fade into obscurity again. That was their day in the limelight. Now that it’s over, though, thank you very much for the time and effort put in to preserve the legacy, but it’s time to get a life!

That may sound harsh, but I do have compassion for them.  Continue reading

Super Bowl XLVI Commercial Previews

It’s becoming a trend for Super Bowl commercials to be released online before the Super Bowl, supposedly to “engage” fans rather than just entertaining them for a few moments during the game until the next great commercial comes along and you lose all your attention span. That, plus more people are “watching TV” on mobile devices all the time. This year, here are some of the commercials released early. There are some great ones, and some just weird ones. See who got it right… Continue reading

My Starships Start Here Contributions

In 2011, Nova Scotia had a campaign called Ships Start Here to rally the province around trying to get a $25 billion navy shipbuilding contract… which we did!

During this time, Andrew Burke came up with a cool parody campaign called Starships Start Here, where starships, space ships, science-fiction characters and the like, would be featured in Nova Scotian scenery. I found out a bit late, to be honest, but when I did, I made a bunch of contributions to it. The pics below are my contributions which have been released so far. Wish on My Star by Jake Shimabukuro and Jennifer Perri

I heard a great new song today I wanted to share because I’m not sure it’s been heard that often outside some parts of the world like Japan, Hawaii and among ukulele lovers. The song is Wish on My Star, by ukulele god Jake Shimabukuro, featuring Jennifer Perri on vocals. It was on Jake’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps CD (video of his amazing rendition) and featured in the movie Hula Girls that was big in Japan and Hawaii. However, other indications like relative lack of YouTube videos and views on them seem to suggest it hasn’t been heard much. That’s why I’m writing a post to share.

I love the song that much already that I would replace a song in my Top 30 Love Songs, which I did as a Facebook meme in February, to make place for it! Enjoy!

Happy 70th Birthday Bob Dylan! (and my Top 10 Dylan Songs)

Bob Dylan

Happy 70th Birthday, Bob Dylan!

Ah, you were so much older then, you’re younger than that now… and may you stay forever young no matter how much the times, they are a’changin’, you rolling stone you!

Man, can you believe the Bob is 70???

I sure can’t… mostly because my main association with him is through his music, and that’s mostly timeless, never aging, so the icon seems that way to me.

For Bob’s 70th, Rolling Stone magazine did a huge number of features this month on him:

Me, I did a meme tribute on Facebook to share one of my favourite Top 10 Bob Dylan songs each day leading to his birthday today. Here is my list, which was generally presented in no particular order except for the last two being my favourite two Dylan songs. It gets too hard to separate the order of the others for me.
