XQ Hand Embroidery of Viet Nam

Recently, I was in Da Lat, Viet Nam, where my Paternal relatives wanted to take me to see some embroidery place, as they casually put it. They knew I liked sewing and fashion so they probably thought I could appreciate the embroidery work done by these people.

Well, what I saw completely blew my mind. Even if you don’t like embroidery, this was spectacular work! It was all hand embroidery, with some having millions of stitches!

GOLDEN Top and MONOTONE Purse: A New Look at New Look Pattern 6435

Last Christmas, I made my Mother a custom fit Chinese style jacket from New Look pattern 6435. The pattern was easy enough, but I was using a heavier fabric with embroidery that resembled Chinese brocade, but wasn’t. I was only starting out and couldn’t afford to make mistakes costly by investing in expensive fabrics. Because of this slightly heavier fabric, I lined the pattern to make it wear comfortably. This was for Mom, after all!

In lining the jacket, I basically threw out the pattern instructions. I don’t follow instructions well, anyway. Continue reading

Would You Shop at Lululemon Given These Despicable Corporate Practices? Poll.

Lululemon is a pretty popular shop these days, I don’t need to tell anybody that. Whether or not you like them, tons of people are shopping lots at Lululemon. Most of them are women, and many of them young, including their young staff. These people are supposed to be sympathetic, social conscious and Internet savvy. Yet, they shop there despite Lululemon having about as despicable a corporate history as any company out there, one that puts what Nike used to be on a level of heaven with saints. Are Lululemon’s shoppers as hypocritical as they are?

Lululemon shoppers are almost like a cult, much like Apple’s shoppers. Lululemon’s are built on yoga and all those ways of inner peace, beauty, wellness relaxation, appreciation and all.  Yet, their ways are anything but that. Worse, they know it and flaunt it like it doesn’t matter. So far, it seems not to have, but can this go on?

Most Likely To… The Evolution of a Facebook Tagging Meme

Note: Since this posting, I have evolved Facebook picture tagging memes on my own ideas far beyond this concept I saw. My ideas involve real world and life actions rather than just associating ideas. They are listed under the Action memes category, involving what I call Facebook 2.0 tagging memes.

The pictorial Facebook tagging memes that have been going around in many variations seems to have evolved into that common high school year book feature, the Most Likely To… page. I saw one just hours ago, but it was so poorly done (mostly due to almost unreadable small type) I went and created my own, text, picture compilation and all. Here’s how to get it:

  • Click on the picture below to get it at full size.
  • Right click on that picture and save to your computer.
  • Upload it to your Facebook profile.
  • Tag your friends or let them tag themselves.

Please click here for a complete list of over 100 Facebook picture tagging memes on this site with which you can use for fun with your friends.

In case you don’t recognize some of the people in my new version, they are as follows, left to right:

  • Top: Peyton Manning, Wangari Matthai, Osama bin Laden, Paris Hilton, Jet Li
  • Middle: Pamela Anderson, Bob Dylan, Oprah Winfrey, the current Dalai Lama, Sue Johannson
  • Bottom: Claudia Schiffer, Martha Stewart, Bill Gates, Anna Nicole Smith, Barack Obama

You can Google these people if you want to know more about who they are, and maybe guess why I’ve put labeled each as such.
