One More COVID Wave Despite Vaccination?

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/As the world start to reopen with more and more people getting vaccinated for COVID-19, there actually looms a possibility for one more wave of COVID-19. Worse, this wave might even worse than those seen so far in the western world, at least, where there’s been lots of resources devoted to controlling the pandemic. This is because while the vaccine is highly effective at 95%, for the best case scenario, that still leaves one in twenty people at risk in what might eventually be a bit of a “free for all” scenario for spread with people being a lot closer, without masks, in large group, etc. Five percent of any population is a lot of people! Do the math for your city, state, province, country, whatever.

The Autobot McDonald’s Stopped in Their Drive Through

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/My province recently started a lockdown-ish to stop some newly uncontrolled COVID spread. Part of this was to stop indoor dining once more, though I wasn’t sure if that included ordering inside for takeout. I figured if it didn’t have to happen, then why let people inside and wait in lines, increasing risk of COVID spread? That’s why I figured I’d order via their drive through, but much to my surprise, they didn’t let me!

Lessons Learned from the First COVID Lockdown for the Second

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/In many places in the world, people have gone through multiple lockdowns due to COVID-19. Where I live, we have been super fortunate to have sensible and law abiding citizens that we’ve had only one lockdown, when COVID first broke here in March 2020. Inevitably, with a place being attractive to those not wanting to be restricted, some will come with their gonzo ways to ruin it. Recently, we had some of that, with the ratio of close contacts to those coming into the province being like 5 to 1. There’s no way everybody coming into the province lived with an average of 5 people, who would have had to quarantine themselves as well. That’s assuming every one of these close contacts caught COVID, never mind some who might not have. Dumb traveling yahoos!

Not Doing COVID Anal Swab Test for the “Experience”

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/A few weeks ago, when I found out that COVID19 rapid tests for asymptomatic people were being done near where I lived, without cost, I went to get one for the “experience”. Lots of people around the world was doing it, and I had seen it on video many times, but I didn’t know what it was like. Since it was harmless and free, I went to satisfy my curiosity. Today, I found out China is now conducting anal swab tests for COVID-19, and I can tell you, no matter how much I hear about it or “see” some version of it, I ain’t going to be going to do this for the “experience”!

Got a COVID Test for the “Experience”, Now Want Another

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/In Nova Scotia, Canada, where I live, COVID testing is free. Further, because we have so few cases compared to the rest of the world, we have been able to encourage asymptomatic testing. That’s testing for people without symptoms who may or may not have COVID, to see if any spread is potentially being done by people without symptoms. We also have “pop-up” testing labs that move around to make it easy for people to get tested. When I finally learned about the location of near me on the day it was there, with enough advanced warning to go get tested, I went for the “experience”… and now, I want another. 🙂
