Answers for Tim Ferriss’ Question 1 from Tribe of Mentors

https://digitalcitizen.ca/tag/podcastsignaturequestions/One of my favourite podcasts is the Tim Ferriss Show. Among the many things Tim is successful at in addition to a podcast host, is being an author. Of his books, there is one called Tribe of Mentors: Short life advice from the best in the world, presumably about life advice that is short rather than advice about living a short life. It is based on answers to 11 really good questions that Tim needed to answer for himself at one point in his life, and of which he asked some people who he most admired to see what they would say so he could learn from the best. A sample can be heard in this podcast episode link, along with more about the questions and their sequence.

Capitalism’s Funnel Problem

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/For all the economic problems there are in the world, as far as I’m concerned, there’s really only one economic problem. That problem is one of fairer redistribution, to get more people more accurate value for what they deserve, and also some value if they were not currently productive until they can be. Every economic problem is one variation or another of this fairer distribution problem. The problem with how we’re trying to solve it, though, is by tackling a niche of this problem here or there, rather than the entire system.

Happy Purple Day for Epilepsy! (March 26th)

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/March 26th is Purple Day, an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. It was founded by a nine-year-old named Cassidy Megan in 2008, who I am now super fortunate to call a friend, and have as a sewing model for me for the women’s garments I design and make as a hobby. She is an amazing and amazingly classy activist, as not all activists are by any means, and it is a joy to watch her in this role, from formal events to informal weekly online sessions she hosts with her Mom to help support those wanting to reach out, share, learn, whatever. Some of the achievements by this phenomenal young woman is in the Wikipedia page for Purple Day, and the Purple Day website itself are just astounding, and I am wishing her, and all others who celebrate Purple Day, whether or not they have epilepsy, the best for the day and year to come!

Losing 11 to 20 Days to Sleep This Year Compared to Last

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/Last year, I spent 7.56 hours in bed each night. I don’t have a way to measure actual sleep time so time in bed was the closest thing to a sleep indicator I had. This year, I wanted to try and get it to at least 7.8 hours per night this year as part of my resolutions. So far, I’m doing well at 8.06 hours per night. However, anything based on time means time for something else is being sacrificed for it. But how much time am I talking about here, in the long run, rather than just a half hour per night? When I did the math, it was a little smack in the face, even though I don’t have any regret about it given sleep is the most important thing one can do for one’s health.

Coping with a Predeterministic Existence

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/What if everything you do won’t ever matter because all the outcomes were predetermined? What if everything everybody ever does won’t matter because all those outcomes were predetermined? What if everything that happens in the universe were predetermined? And not just our petty little lives. And what if those what if scenarios were real instead of hypothetical? Because it is scientifically plausible. What are you going to do to cope with it? Not believe it?
