The GRID Dress Shirt

I’ve been on a new quest to draft and make a proper fitting dress shirt for myself. I’ve also been sewing less as resolved for 2014, with some time off allowed for myself at the end of 2013 and early 2014 to set up some other resolutions. That’s why I haven’t finished any new garments until now.

What if Work Employed Drafts, Trades, Waivers and Free Agency like Sports?

The 2012 NFL draft is tonight. Players will be drafted out of school. Players will be traded for positions and picks. Players will be kept or let go to free agency pending who gets picked up. It all generates a huge amount of hype, no matter which sports draft you’re talking about. And that got me thinking… what would that be like in the work force?

One Sentence Philosophies or Attitudes Facebook Note

facebook notes for thinkersCopy the text between the dotted line as your note in Facebook, MySpace or other places. Put each of your answer on the line just below each prompt.

To make this an English as a Second / Foreign Language exercise, assign the note with some degree of explanation for each answer, whether a sentence, short paragraph or presentation.

You may or may not have a philosophy (or attitude) towards the big things in life. Well, this is as good a time as any to find out. And if you do find it, there’s no better time than the present to start living it. This note might take a little soul-searching as well as thinking.

Someone thinks you’re a smart oyster loaded with pearls of wisdom and seeks your vision on 20 big ticket items in life. You can take that with a grain of sand, if you like. If you are to keep that status, though, you must share your wisdom like a sage, in one sentence… the sort that can easily be quoted, texted or Twittered. Don’t try to be pretentious, grandiose, deep or anything. Just be yourself!

So put your CAPS LOCKS key ON to accentuate your answers and let’s get going!

Parting words of wisdom?
LIVE, NOT PREACH, YOUR PHILOSOPHIES TO IMPART THEM ON OTHERS, AND DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE UNTO YOU.

I also wanted to add a philosophy on war that it is the coward’s way of resolving things because those who start them often never even come close to fighting. However, 20 philosophies was more than enough to challenge people, I think.

Least Likely To Facebook Tagging Meme

After creating my version of the next generation of pictorial Facebook tagging meme in the Most Likely to version, the logical progression was a Least Likely To version below so this is original at the time of posting as far as I know it. While one can use thisĀ  poster in a pessimistic way towards tagging people for the future, to identify friends who would be least likely to do something, I meant it as a reflective exercise with the instructions being to tag friends who were least like to do something.

This is an exercise to acknowledge how people change in big ways we don’t expect, but that we should afford them the chance to in life, rather than blocking them in by removing their potential. I’m generally a positive kind of guy, though with a bit of a wicked sense of humour, at times, as you can see by some of my choices in the poster below. As a result, despite using the same poster as the Most Likely to version, I changed the picture text to be more general in some circumstances. We may dream or lift others to the post of president, for example, but in reality, just being a leader applies to far more of us than president, no matter what kind of president you want to consider.

In case you don’t recognize some of these people, they are as follows, left to right:

  • Top: Peyton Manning, Wangari Matthai, Osama bin Laden, Paris Hilton, Jet Li
  • Middle: Pamela Anderson, Bob Dylan, Oprah Winfrey, the current Dalai Lama, Sue Johannson
  • Bottom: Claudia Schiffer, Martha Stewart, Bill Gates, Anna Nicole Smith, Barack Obama

I’m too tired to put links to all these people but you can Google them, and maybe guess why I’ve put labeled each as such.

I did not create these emoticon Facebook tagging memes, and I do not know who did to link them to the source. However, I did touch up some of them to optimize them in size for Facebook, and a few I found as graphics searching for pictures that could be used for Facebook tagging. If you like descriptions with your emoticon and smiley memes, try the Emoticons & Smileys without Descriptions post.
