First Try at Micro Origami

I saw this video tonight about how a medical school in Japan tested its young potential surgeons with some really tough hand coordination tests, rather than more routine tests.

One of the tests was to make a 5 mm origami crane, which means the original square was 1 cm in size since the crane folds into a wing height about half of the square size. You can also check the video against real squares you create to get an idea. As one who does origami, I figured I’d give it a go, though I wanted to start with the 2 cm squares first to get an idea of how hard it was going to be. Those are 4X the area, by the way, since area is two dimensional so difference in size on each square side is multiplied by each other! Here are some pics of my results below.

Transformers G1 and Movie Facebook Friends Tagging Meme Posters

At the bottom are four Facebook friends tagging memes of the Transformers.

The top one is from the movie Revenge of the Fallen, while the others are from the old so-called Transformers G1 (Generation 1) cartoons. I grew up with the G1 set, but that is not why I like it more. There is just way too much detail in the new robots. There aren’t easy faces to recognize and all their parts are so detailed it looks like one good punch and the whole robot would fall apart.

The middle one is of G1 Transformers, Autobots and Decepticons.

The third one is of G1 Autobots.

The bottom one is of G1 Decepticons, to tag your BAD friends with.

The graphics used for the G1 tagging poster is from Botch’s Transformers Box Art Archive, probably the greatest collection of Transformers cartoons out there! Wow! I can spend days on that site! The detail and completeness of the collection is phenomenal, although I’d have added a bit more punch to many of the scans (i.e. a tad more contrast and saturation). However, if you’re thinking of introducing this site to your kids, just be warned that there is at least a smattering of expletives there which I have come across. That’s not so much my criticism as something to take note since I am directing people to the site.

I left out Ironhide and Ratchet, two popular G1 and new movie characters, because their old robot forms were just ugly! If you want to know more about any of these characters, Adam Botch, on his site, has the box scans. Wikipedia even has lots more information and a Google search, sometimes with the word “transformers” added to the name, should get you the page as the first or second search result.

Super Mario Bros Facebook Picture Tagging Meme

According to Wikipedia, the most sold video game ever is Super Mario Bros, whether alone or in all its subsequent upgrades. Even if you have doubts in Wikipedia, the numbers are so staggeringly wide in gap that they can’t be wrong in terms of order. Regardless, this Facebook tagging picture meme is for those fans of Super Mario Bros. I didn’t label the characters because if you play the game, you have to know the characters, whether they are friend or foe, what special powers they possess and how you can nullify or put it to use to succeed in the game. If you generally know all that, labeling the names is just wasted space.

Star Wars and Wookies Facebook Picture Tagging Memes

I did not create these two Facebook picture tagging memes, but I did improve their quality and optimization for Facebook usage. I do not know from where they come so there is no source link. These memes involve Star Wars themes, though are a bit wacky in their own ways. The Star Wars characters are midget caricatures of the characters, whereas the Wookies one is just weird. But chacun son goût!
