Calculating How Much Exercise to Work Off Your Excess Food

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/How much exercise does it take to work off that excess and/or not so good food you allowed yourself? A week after getting my first ever smart watch, I have a means to find out, and I want to share it for anybody looking to get an idea for themselves. It will be different for everybody due to the exercise, challenges in the exercise, their size, body mass index, and so on. It won’t be exact, but it might be as good an estimate as you’re going to get without all the medical gear. And I’ll also test the joke I’ve been telling myself for decades that I can run a mile per Canadian dollar spent at McDonald’s to run off any McDonald’s that I eat (within 24, if not 48 hours max). This should be interesting! But before we go on, a serious disclaimer.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (Part 1 of 3)

https://digitalcitizen.ca/category/writing/I’m constantly changing things in my life, usually for a good reason rather than a random one, or just randomly. it not only keeps things interesting with new things to try, but fun, and good for the mindset. Every now and then, though, I seem to change something that sets off a bunch of other changes like a chain reaction, albeit one I didn’t see coming. I’m in the middle of one now, and it is going something like this… because I’m in the middle of it. Here’s part 1 of 3 to keep things at a manageable length.

Trim Your Shoe Laces Before Big Races

A friend reminded me of something I used to do before big races (for me), which I thought other runners might enjoy trying. That was to trim my laces so each racing step would be just a tad lighter than the step you made during training when the shoe had the full lace weight. It’d technically be lighter already because with each step, you’d wear down your shoe a bit more. That’s as long as you make sure you don’t pick up gravel and rocks in your shoes!

My New Winged Running Shoes

I need to be faster this summer to be racing the buses in Halifax, so I enhanced my next pair of running shoes with a little customization to help my cause. 🙂

SUPERNOVA One Seam Running Tights

supernova-running-tightsI recently devised a way to make a pattern for running tights where there is only the inner seam on the legs. This will allow me to display my fabric uninterrupted on the outside of my legs and to the middle of my front and back! You can see the result in the picture at right. It is especially effective you have something like a pictorial print rather than some repeating motif on a generic background, because it looks like you have a big picture to show and not just just real estate for repetitive printing of a motif. Now I must make a whole bunch of pairs of such tights as I’ve been hoarding some pretty cool spandex for things I could make for myself without a lot of interruption to the pattern!
