Recently, I was in Manhattan and took the opportunity to visit the Spandex World store on West 38th, between 7th and 8th Avenue in the Fashion/Garment District, that specialized in spandex. Here was my experience for when you go visit them, or in case you want to check them out and order from them online.

FLOWER Dress: Vogue V1047 Dress Pattern Wasn’t Vogue Enough for Me
Last winter, I was involved in a sewing and fashion challenge with the Atlantic Sewing Guild. Lots of people brought in fabrics from their stash to contribute. A couple of people bundled them together in some way that didn’t quite go together well, to create the challenge with that bundle. Different weights, odd colours, no colour, small pieces, etc. were among the challenges with each bundle. Participants then drew numbers to determine order to “draft” a bundle, and then it was up to everyone to make something from their bundle. Here’s what I started and ended up with.
GOLDEN Top and MONOTONE Purse: A New Look at New Look Pattern 6435
Last Christmas, I made my Mother a custom fit Chinese style jacket from New Look pattern 6435. The pattern was easy enough, but I was using a heavier fabric with embroidery that resembled Chinese brocade, but wasn’t. This was for Mom, after all!
In lining the jacket, I basically threw out the pattern instructions. I don’t follow instructions well, anyway. Continue reading
Titanic Fanatics… Time to Get a Life!
Living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where we have Titanic victims and history and all, the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic has been one seriously overblown melodrama in a province that thrives on traditionalism.
However, sadly for them all, the 100th anniversary just past yesterday and now it all will fade into obscurity again. That was their day in the limelight. Now that it’s over, though, thank you very much for the time and effort put in to preserve the legacy, but it’s time to get a life!
That may sound harsh, but I do have compassion for them. Continue reading
Canada Needs Its Own Black Guy with Disputable Citizenship to Run for PM
That Canadian election “debate” tonight was pathétique!
Stephen Harper was ahead of the game again by secretly authorizing the leakage of that Auditor-General’s G8 spending abuse report just days ago. You had better believe it! It refocused the other candidates’ talking points on more of the same old abuse of the PC government, where there’s marginal impact now, rather than discussing some real issues that would have much larger impact on swaying voters.
