This is a writing contest entry I had submitted that did not place. Instead of tweaking and/or submitting to other contests, I have decided not to do this to motivate myself to write more and other content for future contests. I’m not trying to make a living on this, or even earn extra cash, so there’s no need to judge value based on how much time I put into it. If anything, it’s only about minimizing losses of contest entry fees to what’s been “proven” to be “unworthy” of recognition. :)
I hope you like it. 2000 word limit 2021 CBC Nonfiction contest.
It’s been about a week since I’ve posted, but not due to lack of writing. Well, it was due to lack of writing for one day. Yesterday was the first day in 2021 where I didn’t do any writing, but I needed a break after editing, rewriting, and writing bits and parts of a 50,000-ish word short novel of literary nonfiction I had originally written for the 2019 3-Day Novel Writing Contest. I did this for an application for a writing mentorship in Canada. It’ll be a long shot, but the way I look at it, nobody ever bought a lottery ticket thinking it was going to be a short shot, you know? And you can’t win the lottery unless you play, as I often say, for one of my many life philosophies I had written for myself over the years that I had blogged about.
This past winter, I entered the CBC Literary Awards competition for Creative Nonfiction. In short, it’s a contest for style of how you tell a real story in 1500 words or less. The Long List was recently announced and I wasn’t on it, which meant I can now share it here with you! Entries published anywhere until now would have been disqualified from the competition.
This event had an impact on something in my near future at the time of writing, on which I contemplated and which has since passed. In a few days, I will post the follow-up to my contemplation at the story’s end.
I hope you’ll like it and thanks for reading. 🙂
If you’ve ever read the NONfiction Life of Pi, you’d know it is a much more interesting book than the fictional one.
