Earth Day Goal 2010 Achieved, What to Pledge for 2011?

Happy Earth Day to you,
Happy Earth Day to you,
Happy Earth Day dear reader,
Happy Earth Day to you!

What are you going to do,
To keep sea and sky blue,
To reduce your C-O-2,
To be green the year through?

HAPPY EARTH DAY, EVERYBODY!

On Earth Day 2010, I pledged to eat “better” as my Earth Day goal for the year from that day.By “better”, I meant more local and more unprocessed foods, though I didn’t start out defining them that way, nor for the green reasons of food miles. Once I researched more and came to conclude food miles was a myth, though, I ate better for the economy and for my health. I’m sure it still has an environmental impact because I didn’t end up eating food grown in green houses here in the Canadian winter, that would have used up tonnes of excessive energy, but without being able to measure it, I couldn’t claim it for certain. One thing I am more certain, though, is that it saved me money not to be eating out so much as before given I don’t eat processed foods like frozen dinners that tend to be on the cheaper side, though I did eat more fast food than I should have.

Over 250 Cartoon Pictures for Facebook Profile Pics Campaign Against Child Abuse

Until December 6th, there is a global campaign on Facebook where people replace their profile pictures with their favourite cartoon character/s, then encourage their friends to do the same. Now this campaign I like! Too bad it’s way too short but it’s gone viral globally after just a day’s notice!

I’ve got over 250 cartoon pictures made for Facebook profile pics at the bottom, arranged in alphabetical order with names, which include some modern and some old cartoons.

Guitar and Ukulele Tabs for Here Comes the Sun (George Harrison)

This Beatles classic was written by George Harrison and has been used by him so much it seems wrong now to say the song was by the Beatles rather than George. The song is tabbed pretty much as is in the recording people know best, which is the one used in the video below.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

George Harrison

The one thing my tabs call for, though, is that the singer also sings all the main instrumental phrasings. You can hum it, if you like, but I prefer to use “doo doo”. It makes for a song with a lot of “doo doo” in it, but a good one! 🙂

All the notes are written out so wherever you see notes in the main body of the lyrics, you sing or hum them.

There is a bit of syncopated strumming in the middle instrumental interlude. “Slash” characters describe them. Read them left to right so if they rise, you’re on an upstroke, whereas if they fall, you’re on a down stroke. It’d be hard to describe it more without a video to show it, which I may some day, but I think if you listen to the song and try to strum along, you’ll get it. It’s not that difficult.

If you do the strumming and singing of the instrumental parts on top of the regular song, you’ll find you won’t feel like you need a band to play a pretty good version of this great tune. The depth of talent in the Beatles still blows my mind!

Enjoy!

If the letter size tabs (8.5″ x 11″) are too small for your eyes, you can either enlarge to tabloid size (11″ x 17″) using an automatic enlarge feature on many photocopiers, or download the tabloid sized versions for printing. The tabloid size tabs can be inserted into a typical letter sized binder on the 11″ size, and folded almost in half to fit. You just open each tab to use it.

Take a Digital Photo, Thank Nobel Prize Winner Willard Boyle of Nova Scotia

Willard Boyle, Nova Scotian Physics Nobel Prize Winner 2009

Update:
A sad update that Willard Boyle passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the age of 86. He had been named to the Order of Canada last July, after having received the Nobel Prize in 2009. As long as digital photos will be a part of our lives, whether in our cameras or even integrated into us in the science fiction future, his work will continue to have a great impact on all of the human race. Just think of what roles and value digital photos play in your life today, and you’ll truly appreciate the impact of his work.

NHL, AHL, WHL, OHL, QMJHL, NWHL Hockey Fans Facebook Friends Tagging Challenge

I created these tagging challenges for fans of North American hockey, or people who know lots of those fans. The tagging challenges can be done on Facebook, MySpace, LiveJournal or other platforms where you can tag people on pictures.

The idea is to see how diverse is the group of hockey fans you know, and how does that compare to your fellow hockey loving friends. It’s no fun if everybody supported the team you supported, you know!

Pick a Facebook tagging meme of your choice based on the leagues below:

Tag one person you know whose favourite team is represented by the team logo. It has to be that person’s favourite team as you can’t tag a person twice on the same photo.

How many teams can you tag? And how does this compare to your friends who might have done this same challenge?

Here’s how to get these graphics for your tagging fun:

  • Click on a picture below to get it at full size.
  • Right click on that picture and save to your computer.
  • Upload it to your Facebook profile.
  • Tag your friends!

Fancy yourself quite the social sports fan, or this isn’t your sport? Try the same Facebook tagging challenges for:

Please click here for a complete list of over 100 Facebook picture tagging memes on this site with which you can use for fun with your friends.

Enjoy!
