Pride Parade Edition of Star Trek TNG Uniform

Each summer in recent years, I have participated in parades with Hal-Con, Halifax’s sci-fi,fantasy & gaming convention run completely by much-too-dedicated volunteers. One of these parades is our Pride Parade, and I always come up with some special edition cosplay for it.

A few years back, I got the idea for a pink Star Trek: The Next Generation uniform, with each pip representing a colour in the rainbow flag. I made the buttons large so it would be visible from a little far away, given this was a parade and not intimate convention settings where people are constantly close to you to see the details. I did it despite not having a neck big enough fo hold them all on the front right side. And while six pips is more than the Star Trek rank and file would allow, I believe, let me make it clear the six was not meant as superiority. I just couldn’t go around choosing 4 of the 6 colours on the flag, ya know???

My idea wasn’t executed in the best of fashion a few years back, but I got a better version this time around. Fortunately for me, a professional photographer name Shaun Simpson in Halifax was able to get a couple of great shots of it. Even more fortunately, I didn’t look bad in the photos, either. Thanks so much, Shaun! Check out the fabulous entire album Shaun got of the Pride Parade and associated events to see how fun things were this year!

I should find out how I can get this to George Takei so he can see it. I wonder if he would approve. 🙂

Royal Family Shows Pride to Give New Baby Boy Initials of GAL

George Alexander Louis Windsor! Now there’s a GAL! He may become quite the lad some day, but he’s already quite the GAL!

George Alexander Louis is the name given to the new royal baby boy by William and Kate. And GAL are his initials.

Nice to see an open minded couple who left a small gap in case their son wants to become the first transgendered prince and king. 😉

Can you imagine all the hoopla that would create…

George Zimmerman… Sort of Free

The verdict just came down that George Zimmerman was found NOT GUILTY of shooting teen Trayvon Martin. My opinion was that Florida law and burden of proof on the prosecution forced this conclusion, but that the jury made the right decision based on what it was compelled to by Florida law. I don’t agree it is the right and just conclusion, but that the jury didn’t have too much of a choice if it were to have followed the law… a law that’s going to need a review soon!

My Pink Star Trek Uniform for the Halifax Pride Parade 2012

Recently, I was privileged to be able to participate in the Halifax Natal Day Parade. I was with a float representing Hal-Con, Halifax’s sci-fi,fantasy & gaming convention run completely by much-too-dedicated volunteers. We had a truck and a whole bunch of people in cosplays of various style, including sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk, anime, board and video games, and some original characters. For the occasion, I made a pink “Pride in Star Trek” (The Next Generation) uniform, as shown below.
