Yes, Mark Zuckerberg is only eating animals he kills himself these days! That’s his latest “personal challenge”, which, for context, have included things like learning Chinese in 2010 (continuing) and wearing a tie every day in 2009.
Mark’s reason for doing this?
This is part 2 of 3 posts showing all the ads TED deemed worth spreading. (Part 1)
The TED (Technology Entertainment and Design) community just released its 2011 Ads Worth Spreading contest winners, and the ads are better than the ones I have seen for the Super Bowl in any year! But what did you expect from a brilliant group who’s moniker is “Ideas Worth Spreading”?
Now these ads aren’t like ones in the Super Bowl lasting 30-60 seconds. These ads are much longer, often being the full version of the shortened ads for TV time slots. However, with ads like these, I could watch commercials in place of TV shows because I don’t notice how long or short they are. I’m actually a little sad once it’s over, alongside whatever mood the commercials left me in.
I have posted a bunch of the ads here because I have found higher quality versions of the ads than the ones available on the TED website. Otherwise, I’d have just posted links to them all on TED’s site.

The people at Facebook call Facebook users with over 1,000 friends Facebook “whales”.
For a hip company in a hip business like social media, that’s about as “un-urban” a term as I thought they could come up with for the urban dictionary of new slang.
“Sub-urban” would be the more appropriate term, as that’s like Latin for “below” or “less than” urban. But Latin’s too old and logical to be hip.
So can’t we come up with a better term?

Fake?
Fimp or Frimp? (Friend and Pimp)
Falker? (Friend and Stalker)
Follector or Frollector? (Friend and Collector)
Fliend? (Flake and Friend)
Actually, I’d save fliend for people you add but you don’t really want to. You just add them to avoid awkwardness. An example might be a boss you don’t like but who may have a thing or suspicion for you. Or a partner of someone you know who wants to keep an eye on activity between his/her partner and anyone else who might be a “threat”… or who is just jealous of everyone else in their partner’s life. You get the idea.
Fliend. Yeah. I kind of like it! Someone you don’t particularly like sends you a Friend Request. You have to reluctantly accept it so you say Sure, I’ll be your FLIEND! 🙂
But I digress. Back to the original topic.
Maybe none of those are great, you know, and probably a little too judgmental for Facebook to put out there, but for the people outside of Facebook, can’t we come up with any better idea than Facebook whale?
Maybe there’s a term out there already? After all, the Urban Dictionary has terms like Facebookemon for all sorts of Facebook related activities, habits and people.
Can someone inform me or suggest a term?

I did not create these, but I got them on Facebook and cannot determine their creators on the Net so I don’t have links to their sources. I did touch them up to give more contrast, line-up a few things, remove advertisements from sites which stole them and advertised themselves on them, and so on. These are better than their originals. As for theme, these are Japanese anime and manga posters, but those with humans in them rather than other creatures.

The first is Bleach or Burīchi(ブリーチ).
The second is Final Fantasy or Fainaru Fantajī (ファイナルファンタジー ). I’ll let you figure out what it’s about if you don’t know and/or can’t guess. 🙂
The third is a Merubura (メルブラ ) set that is sometimes known in English as Melty Blood, as per the Wikipedia entry (メルティブラッド Meruti Buraddo), is a visual novel and fighting game, co-developed by dōjin circles Type-Moon and French-Bread, originally released at Comiket on December 2002. That English name somehow just seems like a very poor translation.
The fourth is the Street Fighter or SF (ストリートファイター Sutorīto Faitā) set. Guess what it’s about? Of course, I should mention there are Japanese themes not about fighting and war, like the ever gentle Hello Kitty.
The final one is a Tekken or Iron Fist (鉄拳) set. It, too, is a fighting video game.
