I just got back from a fantastic vacation in Nawlins (New Orleans) where I spent 2 weeks with my Parents in their life to see what their life was like there, not zipping around, doing crazy things and such Nawlins is infamous for. Of course, I did a little fabric shopping while there. Being a bit out in the suburbs, I wasn’t close to a lot of fabric stores except Hancock Fabrics and the fabric sections in several Wal-mart stores. Yet, this was great because they had what I was looking for, which was a lot of licenced “geek” themed fabrics at affordable prices not found in Canada… or at least in Halifax where I live. As a result of all that, my fabric shopping haul this time probably won’t interest too many of my lady friends in the Atlantic Sewing Guild. It’s a horrible name, but I like it! It has nothing to do with funders, and it’s not really a shirt, but it rhymes with thunder, and that sounds good to me!
The TRANQUILITY Dress Shirt
I am starting a new phase in my garment design and making adventure with my dress shirt pattern fitting pretty much complete. I have officially dug into my good fabric stash for making dress shirts designs I’ve for several years now, designs which will really showcase my design ability and vision. See the first picture in the gallery below for an example of the kind of fabrics I’m talking about. In this case, it’s all Chinese jacquards, which I hate to say, stinks a little upon ironing. However, I hope that will lessen with several more washing.
The GRID Dress Shirt
I’ve been on a new quest to draft and make a proper fitting dress shirt for myself. I’ve also been sewing less as resolved for 2014, with some time off allowed for myself at the end of 2013 and early 2014 to set up some other resolutions. That’s why I haven’t finished any new garments until now.
The FIRST Dress Shirt
Before my current sewing adventure, I had one fling with sewing back in 2007 when I made this dress shirt. You can see from it, I had most of my fashion philosophy even way back then. Bold colours. Clear and easily defined. Asymmetry. Distinct look. Details. Memorable.
