Finished March Madness 2016 in Top 1%

So Villanova won the Men’s March Madness Tournament in 2016 with a buzzer beater.

I had picked and was hoping for North Carolina. Getting the final result incorrect slipped me from the top 0.1 percent placing, to the top 1% placing out of about 12 million brackets in ESPN’s pool. However, it was still the best result I ever had.

President Obama’s Barackets came in the top 21%, with North Carolina saving his butt in the semi-finals to give him lots of points. He was sitting on the cusp of 50% in the previous round! It wasn’t even close this year, Mr President. 🙂

I finished 7-1 vs President Obama during his 8 years of predictions. I hope he’ll still continue once he’s out of office.

What to Do on Square Root Day for Fun

This is a bit late for today as I only recently found out about it, but perhaps you can apply it on May 5th, 2025.

Square Root Day is when the date, month and last two digits of the year can be written as a multiplication equation for a square number. Today, April 4th, 2016, is one such example with 4 x 4 = 16. The next one is May 5th, 2015 as said, and there are only 9 Square Root Days to a century.

Some people, like Scientific American, doesn’t think there’s much fun that can be had like Pi Day. Well, it depends on how you do it, and if you’ve got the personality for it. Here are some ideas for what to do for fun on Square Root Day:

  • Act square (let’s see you do something that fun with a pie!)
  • Get a root canal while acting square (OK, not so fun)
  • Square off over the root cause of something (this can be very fun and intellectual)
  • Square off over the root cause of something, with drawing squares for guns
  • Root for some thing or somebody square
  • Eat square stuff
  • Eat from square plates or bowls, or drink any concoction from square glasses
  • Make a square pie and eat that!
  • Post a square photo on Instagram

If you see this and it’s still Square Root Day, get out and do something and have some fun!

Happy Square Root Day!

Take Pride in Your Work Spider-man Meme Alternative

I saw the original image on Stan Lee’s Facebook page, without Dennis the Menace. I felt it had potential for a double meaning so I added Dennis via some image from which I cropped him. I couldn’t post it as a reply on Stan Lee’s page so I figured I’d put it on my site instead.

My Idea of #WordWednesday

Each Wednesday, on my Facebook profile, I use a word I recently learned that I find interesting. For example, today I used

Can one have lethologica over lethologica?

I call it #wordwednesday, the way #throwbackthursday  is used as a weekly meme. It shares something anyone could be interested in, or use. It helps me retain a word I want in my vocabulary, even if not used often due to its lack of potential practical uses (as opposed to showing off at parties). It makes for a less mundane status update than the usual daily life thing or news shared by people on newsfeeds.

Seems Dictionary.com already has a #wordwednesday hashtag used for nominating an interesting word once each week. Well, lots of people won’t agree with that. With this, though, you pick your own interesting word and it benefits you for certain.

That’s why I do my version of #wordwednesday.

If you want a resource, there are many, including Pinterest boards on words. Here’s my board on English words, as well as one on non-English words that I wished were available in English. Well, that doesn’t stop me from using them or telling others about them! Just like how English incorporate so many words from so many other languages into English, I just do it informally ahead of the day when I know it will just have to be. 🙂

Give it a try! You can do it on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram or any number of other social and less than social media. 🙂

Will Republicans Jump on Obama’s Barackets as Being Symbolic of His Presidency?

Obama came into office like a champ. Don’t start with the trash talk yet. He won the Presidency and you can’t be saying that about anybody else so keep the lid on the trash can for now.

Obama also opened his Barackets campaign picking the ultimate champ, North Carolina, and beat about 90% of all ESPN brackets in 2009.

Fast forward to 2016. It’s been a rough ride in the middle for his March Madness picks. Thrice he has picked Kansas to go all the way, and thrice they have failed him, including Saturday night. He has also failed to pick the correct winner in any other year, if I’m not mistaken. And Mashable shows him to be fairly “average” in his track record.

Kansas’ loss to Villanova Saturday night left the President in just the 47th percentile, meaning 53% of the 12 million brackets entered on ESPN were doing better than him. Worse for him, things will likely only get worse because the one team he has remaining, North Carolina, is the most popular pick remaining, and he doesn’t have them going all the way as 1 in 7 people do. Half the brackets have UNC winning Sunday as does Obama. In other words, lots of people still have other teams remaining in their pool that the President doesn’t, and they can make ground on him, whereas UNC that he has remaining, lots of people also have so he won’t be making grounds on that many. Pending how things turn out, the POTUS could still finish in the upper half of all brackets, but that’s about the best as he’ll do this year. More likely, he’ll tailspin to a crash on his final Barackets submission.

OK, Republicans. Now you can spout your nonsense, as if this has anything to do with how he did in office. 🙂

March Madness 2016 R3half

One person Obama won’t be beating is me, though. I picked Villanova to beat Kansas tonight in my bracket entry, also in the graphic above. I also have UNC going further than da Prez so anything he gains from UNC, I will also gain. He cannot mathematically catch me, in other words, and it’s only half way through the Elite 8 round! I’m also sitting in the top 0.5%, by the way, just for bragging rights while I can in case my brackets crash and burn in the future. 🙂

I will finish 7-1 against Obama during his 8 years of Barackets submission. I was expecting better competition than that, I have to admit. However, I hope Obama will continue to submit his Barackets after he’s out of the Oval Office.

Obama is about hope, right?

Maybe his luck will change for the better then. 🙂

He can only hope so. 🙂
