The smallest things sometimes keeps me from doing what I want to do, for no good reason. One such example was handling quinoa as I wanted to make it more frequently. It had been packaged all the wrong ways for me. I generally wanted to consume about 40% of a box I usually bought in one serving, being economical for me to buy when it was on sale. Boxes stored quinoa in crude plastic bags that didn’t re-seal, opened and nor poured out nicely. That made it a tad messy to dispense, with how fine the quinoa grain was, and awkward to store what was left. It was just annoying to get out, use and put back each time, in other words, though just a tiny bit of patience would have helped. Where cooking is involved, though, patience is not my friend.

The Golden Tempo is 97 BPM (beats per minute)
Is there a “golden” tempo that is universally appealing, like the Golden Ratio is universally appealing visually? Not to my knowledge… nor search engine Google’s knowledge, for that matter. However, as I was setting a tempo for a piano étude I had composed a few decades ago, it turned out to be about 100 bpm. That was roughly 1 and 2/3 beats per second, or 1.666 approximated, which wasn’t far from 1.618 approximated that I knew to be the rounded value of the Golden Ratio.
My Visual Catalog of Origami Learned
Happy New Year, everyone! To start it, I created a visual catalog of some origami that I know how to do, and for the many more I will be learning in 2018. I’d embed the Tableau catalog here to show you except WordPress doesn’t allow for Javascript. You’ll just have to click through the link above to see it.
CANABIS = cannabis from Canada
Canada is planning to legalize marijuana, also known as cannabis, in 2018. Among the many issues of concern is quality control, because if government will be selling it, there has to be some quality control standards. Those standards can be expected to be good, too! Canadian cannabis is going to be known for its quality!
So I thought why not just brand it? Since the two words Canada and cannabis start with the same sounding syllables, with slightly different spelling to make a portmanteau sort of pun from it, that works orally as well as written, why not?
Canabis would be cannabis from Canada with all its positive qualities!
Canada’s Most Comprehensive, Interactive Public Health Report Card (CCHS 2015-16 Combined)
I just added a Tableau Public set of dashboards showing combined 2015 and 2016 year results for the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), which allowed for comparisons and rate calculations at geographies smaller than provincial and territorial levels. These included Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) and health areas (units, zones, districts, etc.), as well as combined large, medium and small population centres, and rural areas, within a province or territory. The roughly 680 thousand rows of data, including calculations of statistical significance in differences done by Statistics Canada, allowed for some amazing comparisons… and eye opening results! There currently is nothing else quite like this published by anybody to show CCHS results!
I could not embed the dashboards here because WordPress does not allow for JavaScript. However, you can see the dashboards with explanations here.
Click on the following link if you just want to use the dashboards directly, without explanations.
And click on the following link if you want the latest version of CCHS results, 2016, but without geographies below the provincial level.
