I just saw these on a site by Canadian hardware store Lee Valley, of all places! They are by Metal Earth. There are all kinds of themes for their models, and they are all pretty cool! At Lee Valley, they are about $8-$15 Canadian apiece. I see online, like at Amazon, they are sometimes a lot more. However, you’re getting ripped off in such a case, likely, if Lee Valley can sell them at those prices as a middleman. The only reason you might pay a bit more is if some store you know doesn’t carry a particular model, since there are so many! But I’d just get it directly from their site if I were you. There is substantial shipping outside of the US, though, so bulk it up on an order to get the most out of your standard shipping rates.
The models are constructed of finely micro-etched pieces that are laser-cut from 11cm (4-3/8″) square sheets of metal, with two sheets of parts for each model. To assemble, pop out the pieces by hand and use needle-nose pliers (or tweezers) to bend the tabs and fit the pieces together. For ages 14 and up, each model takes about two hours to assemble. Although a certain level of manual skill and patience is required, the time and effort render a fascinating collectible.
Below are some of the models available, but check sites above or this one for the full collection, as well as accessories.
