Year of the Black Water Snake

Happy Chinese New Year 4711 of the Black Water Snake!

February 10, 2013 marks the start of the Chinese New Year. It’s the Year of the Snake, in general terms. If you want to be more detailed, it’s the Black Water Snake. But people generally only care for what it all holds, right?

What’s Your Biggest Resolution for 2013?

Happy New Year, everyone!

It’s that time of year again, of course, for resolutions. The secret to making them happen tends to be gradual, habitual changes that you can sustain, or improve upon, over time, rather than drastic and dramatic changes. You should also have a plan to monitor progress. It’s more in the details than concept, essentially. So with that in mind, I want to know what is your biggest resolution for 2013, and how are you realistically planning to achieve this?

If this is news to you, well, just because it’s January 1st, 2nd or whatever, doesn’t mean it’s too late to reformulate. I’ve given my resolution below, and how I intend to achieve it, as an example to illustrate my points above.

Facebook has a new feature for its users. It’s called the Year in Review, and it features your Top 20 Moments from some algorithm Facebook generates from your profile. You may have seen it, or not have it yet, as it seems to be a gradual rollout. So look for it if you have not!

Just go to your profile. On the right hand side of where your wall starts, there should be a “2012” graphic and link to click on to see your top moments from 2012. A whole page is dedicated to it!

Help Me With My Fashionable Earth Day Goal for 2012

Happy Earth Day, everyone!

In the past, I have set annual Earth Day goals to work on for the “environmental year”. For example, I pledged to reduce my possessions by 3X my weight in 2009. I still don’t own a car and rarely ever take a cab, opting for public transit and walking mostly… by choice. I recycle a lot. I’ve become much better at energy usage than before, including turning off just about everything any time I’m away for more than 3 days. The freezer is usually the exception. I eat more locally and seasonally now, and so on. I plan to upkeep all this, of course, but have one more thing to add for the 2012-13 “environmental year”.

With my new foray into sewing and fashion since last fall, though, this will be the area of my Earth Day environmental focus for this upcoming “environmental year”. Below is what I plan to do to start. However, because I need to do a lot more research in this, I will have to add more specifics as I go along. Any suggestions anybody’s got is much appreciated. Thanks!
