So the Winnipeg Jets have decided to keep the name, as the fans had wished that was clear on polls from my site but also from others. The poll on my site was far more resounding (76%) than the poll done in the Winnipeg Sun (58%), and snubbed the mayor’s comment about how the new team wouldn’t be called the Jets (same story as previous). Not good for political media, eh?
True North just released the new Winnipeg Jets logo late Friday afternoon upon learning it had leaked on the Internet via this picture showing the new Jets logo on merchandise. All that is available within 24 hours of that release are in small files of the logos so there isn’t a lot for me to work with to create wallpapers. However, for the early adaptors and fervent fans, of which I know there are many in Winnipeg, here are 10 designs below in 11 different sizes.
The new hockey franchise in Winnipeg probably won’t be called the Jets, despite all the nostalgic fans wanting it so.
Even if they do get called the Jets, they’ll have a new logo, despite all the nostalgic fans probably wanting the old uniforms to be worn.
However, I’m thinking some people will want some old Jets logo wallpapers cause when they left in 1996, wallpapers weren’t all that big a deal in the computer world, the Internet was just a baby… and not many people had widescreen and large monitors the size they are today.
So here you go, Jets fans. Enjoy! I got the graphics from various sources on the Internet and touched them up in various ways, from just adjusting contrast to combining graphics into new wallpapers.
I’ll finish the set later this week and remove this last sentence when done.
The deal to move the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg seems to be all but done as I write this. I’m going to gamble that it will happen in writing this post and move on to the next big question of whether the new Winnipeg team should be called the Jets?
I created these tagging challenges for fans of North American professional football, or people who know lots of those fans. The tagging challenges can be done on Facebook, MySpace, LiveJournal or other platforms where you can tag people on pictures.
The idea is to see how diverse is the group of football fans you know, and how does that compare to your fellow football loving friends. It’s no fun if everybody supported the team you supported, you know!
- Pick a Facebook tagging meme of your choice based on the leagues below: National Football League (NFL), Canadian Football League (CFL) and Arena Football League (AFL).
- Tag one person you know whose favourite team is represented by the team logo. It has to be that person’s favourite team as you can’t tag a person twice on the same photo.
- How many teams can you tag? And how does this compare to your friends who might have done this same challenge?
Here’s how to get these graphics for your tagging fun:
- Click on a picture below to get it at full size.
- Right click on that picture and save to your computer.
- Upload it to your Facebook profile.
- Tag your friends!
Fancy yourself quite the social sports fan, or this isn’t your sport? Try the same Facebook tagging challenges for:
