AVENGING Toque

I had some scrap fabrics left from a short sleeve set of pajamas I just realized I’ve never blogged. Anyway, it was an “unofficial” Avengers print. Bunch of Marvel superheroes that were on the Avengers at some point. Doesn’t say much, I suppose. Just about every Marvel superhero has been on the Avengers, it seems.

With scraps and separate characters, an idea came to mind to make a toque since those have small pieces so each one could display a character! I used a McCall pattern but it was terrible for fit so I won’t bother mentioning it here. What it did mean, though, was that I gave it to my cousin’s little boy as it barely fit me but didn’t cover my ears fully and was not completely functional as a result.

The finished product is shown below in photo and video that was fun to improvise, but isn’t as clear as the photos. Brought out the geek in me. 😉

Various Pillowcases and Why Pillowcases are GREAT Gifts to Sew for Kids

Sew you want to sew something for kids this Christmas. But what can you sew? Technically, anything you want or can. However, some things are better sewn and/or better value for your time than others. I’m going to make a “case” why pillowcases are one of those better, if not best, gifts.

Corset Dresses

At the end of last 2013, I took a corset making course with a friend in the Atlantic Sewing Guild. Seems I haven’t posted about it because I never got a picture of how well it fitted on my model, rather than the picture on my dress form below.

But aside from learning to make corsets, I was also taking the course to learn to do sexy bodices for dresses. Most of the pics below, and why I’m posting this, is to show the sorts of ideas I had in mind. I wasn’t dreaming of anything of such professional quality for starters, of course, but basically down the same road.

GISHWHES Should Award for New Friends and/or Facebook Friends Made from Doing It

GISHWHES, or The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen!, is a global community of individuals (94 countries and growing!) that “gather” online once a year, form international teams, and then go out into the real world and create “art” the likes of which the world has never seen.

One of the things that come from this is people reaching out to other people. New friendships, or just Facebook friendships, are born as a result. I think they should award a point for every one new friend made. Cap it at something like 50 and have people document it somehow. It’s not a lot of points, and probably hardly even worth the effort. However, it’s an easy 50 points and the true value lies in reiterating to people that they just made 50 new friends because of the contest!

There might be a Guiness World Record in there somewhere, too, I’d bet, if the documentation is done reasonably well enough. Helps earn and validate the points.

Don’t you think that’s worth the 50 points?
