Facebook has a new feature for its users. It’s called the Year in Review, and it features your Top 20 Moments from some algorithm Facebook generates from your profile. You may have seen it, or not have it yet, as it seems to be a gradual rollout. So look for it if you have not!
Just go to your profile. On the right hand side of where your wall starts, there should be a “2012” graphic and link to click on to see your top moments from 2012. A whole page is dedicated to it!
Leading up to the 2012 US election, lots of people Liked Mitt Romney or Barack Obama on Facebook. With Obama winning the election, though, a lot of people are quietly removing evidence they supported Mitt in shame by Un-Liking his Facebook page. What’s a lot? I say “quietly” because it’s not like Facebook puts it through the Newsfeed, or on a Timeline, that you UN-Liked a page. It’s not a good example why Facebook should have UN-Likes in their newsfeed, but it’s certainly a curious one.

If you use Facebook, you know there is a Like button you can click on to show you like, support, approve or think positively of it in some way. There is no Dislike button, probably to keep the social experience positive, among other reasons. However, this lack of a Dislike button isn’t serving the need on identifying true social public opinion on any matter that might be controversial. If all you ever saw were all the people who Liked something controversial, how would you ever know how many people might Dislike it like in a real poll?
Facebook has employed a new and really annoying strategy to force its users to see more advertising. Pages that your Facebook friends LIKE, which have updates, are now showing up dead and center in your newsfeed when these pages have updates, and not just as an ad on the side of things! So stuff you don’t care about will be flooding your newsfeed via your friends even when your friends are not actually doing anything… and you’ll have to look through them to get past to the next stories! It is really annoying!!!
