The innovation discussed

Ways you can reduce food waste, reduce their impact in how you get rid of it, and how some innovative chefs are reducing food waste through the entire food usage cycle, from prior to cooking to after the food has been rejected towards the trash.

What YOU can do with this innovation

  • See where you can waste less food, whether better planning, better understanding of “best before” dates, or otherwise.
  • Figure out how to minimize the impact of the food you have to throw out from the from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and practical tips in the documentary.

Watch Earth from Space (Discovery Channel Documentary)

Earth from Space is by far the best video I have ever seen about the Earth. The videography is absolutely stunning, but the information presented also rivals that. See how natural forces work on Earth, on its own and, of course, together. You really get a sense of how everything influences everything else. There’s a TON of information to learn, then contemplate consequences after that. Headache medication makers should really sponsor these awesome documentaries!

Below is the entire documentary. You can watch it in HD if you have the bandwidth and want to see it in all its glory. Do that by clicking on the YouTube icon near the bottom left corner.

The Lucky Few: The Story of USS Kirk (complete film)

The Lucky Few is an hour long documentary about the story of the USS Kirk and its crew in their incredible mission to rescue Vietnamese refugees during Operation Frequent Wind in the final days of the Viet Nam War.

As the War was coming to an end on April 29th to 30th, 1975, Operation Frequent Wind airlifted about 7100 “at risk” Vietnamese (to death from the Communist Viet Cong) and American civilians out of Sai Gon, the capital of South Viet Nam. Some lifts were scheduled. Others were not. The relative American small warship USS Kirk, a destroyer escort, and its crew suddenly found themselves in the midst of a flock of unscheduled airlifts, to which it admirably accommodated even though it was neither meant nor ready to do any such thing.

Watch Kings Ransom on the Gretzky Trade to LA (entire documentary)

If you were Canadian and alive on August 9, 1988, your life stopped at least for a little while, if not got changed entirely. I know my life got changed entirely. That was the day the Edmonton Oilers traded the greatest NHL player ever, to an American team, in the same division. It was the trade of the century, without a doubt.

Over 20 years later, ESPN produced a phenomenal documentary on that trade called Kings Ransom, as part of their fabulous 30 for 30 series of documentaries. It puts a lot of new perspective and filled in a lot of gaps to the story. Also, with time, we could follow all the story lines to their conclusions, some of which were quite surprising, from the destinies of Peter Pocklington and Bruce McNall, to Wayne himself, his marriage, and what he has done for hockey in the US, especially California area, as well as hockey in Canada and hockey as a business.

It was too bad this documentary hasn’t gotten more buzz in Canada.

Below is the documentary in 4 video clips posted by a YouTube user called HockeyWebCaster. Thanks for posting.

I hope you enjoy and recommend to others who may be interested.

I cried a lot that day when Wayne was traded. Watching this documentary, I did it again. I wonder what the guy next to me on the Air Canada flight to San Francisco thought. 🙂
