Compluvium

Square opening in roof of ancient Roman atrium, toward which the roof sloped and through which the rain fell into the impluvium

 

Impluvium

Sunken part of the atrium in a Greek or Roman house, designed to carry away rainwater coming through the compluvium of the roof

 

Revetment

A fa├žade of stone slabs or decorated ceramic plaques used as the outer facing layer of a wall, esp in Roman architecture
