Would Canadians Mourn as Much for Stephen Harper as Jack Layton?
It’s been a few days since the passing of New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton as I write this, and the tributes are still pouring in. Thousands have come to Ottawa to say goodbye in person as his body laid in state. Impromptu memory walks and memorials have been set up across the country by people he’s never met. Public reactions from the famous to the infamous to the nonfamous are still pouring in. People are still updating their Twitter and Facebook accounts with more tweets and statuses about Jack days after the fact. They’re talking about it all over the place, too, not just online. It’s a really heart felt national tragedy, one that has overshadowed plane crashes and other tragedies that have also gone on during this time.
While thinking about all this, though, I had another thought.

A Few Simple and Potent Quinoa Salad Recipes
About a month ago, I was introduced to quinoa (KIN-wa) by some organic farming friends at Whippletree farm. Since then, I have integrated quinoa into my diet and thought I’d share a few recipes here, with more to come.
Quinoa is a South American grain of which you primarily eat the seeds. If you’ve never heard of it, or not sure what to make of it, NASA has declared it virtually unrivaled in the plant or animal kingdom for its life-sustaining nutrients and with an exceptional balance of amino acids (NY Times, Mar 19 2011). That is by far the best endorsement I have ever heard about any food, and it also tastes far better than my other staples of pasta and rice! No hype here, folks! This is the real deal!

Just one day after Osama bin Laden was killed, a surprise successor has taken over his role in Stephen Harper’s majority government from the Canadian election.
Well, at least in Canada he has, thanks to all the 40% Tory voters who will help to destroy what is a really great country.

Da Prez is where he is after Round 1 by predicting 28 of 32 correct picks in the round! That’s 3 better than where he was at this point in 2010.
