The Cannibalized Dress Shirt

After having made 15 fit garments for my dress shirt, I felt good enough to make the 16th a “real” one with the few minor adjustments I felt I had left to get it to the stage I wanted. The real one meant it had to be lined, and that I would give the collar and cuffs a first try. The lining was required because the dress shirt style is worn untucked like a tunic, and I do not want the bad side of some fabrics to be exposed since it would be rather obvious. Think of pajama flannel that is drastically faded, or even white, on the opposite side of intense colours. I line those areas with the right side of the fabric, and the rest of the garment with incredibly smooth shirting. Yes, multi-piece lining!

Today’s Sermon: Jesus Without Underwear

Dear Congregation,

Recently, like many other congregations around the United States, we all went to see Man of Steel to better understand Jesus through the remarkable parallels found in Superman. I am serious. There were many other congregations whose pastors also led them to see Man of Steel (Daily Telegraph). And here some of you thought I was a heretic!

One aspect of the Man of Steel which we did not address as a metaphor to Jesus, but which got your attention and confused you, was the loss of his red underwear from his previous image. What did that mean???

Was there new research to suggest Jesus went commando underneath that robe? On a more practical level, should you be going commando to be more in the image of his Holiness??? Continue reading

Let’s Have a RUN FOR OBESITY to Cure the Disease!

The American Medical Association has just voted to classify obesity as a “disease”.

Wow. That’s just wrong. I thought doctors were supposed to be smart.

I know obesity is being treated like an epidemic, so the expression goes, but that’s only because it’s big in numbers. There’s nothing very epidemic about it medically. You can involuntarily spread it. You can’t involuntarily catch it. You sure as heck can influence those around you to be overweight if you are, but it’s still a choice most people make. There are some, I realize, that have weight gain as a medical condition from conditions with their body, but those are rare in the group making obesity to be considered an epidemic. I’m not talking about those people. I’m talking about the regular ones who just make bad choices and don’t have enough motivation and discipline to keep from being obese. That’s the real disease, if you ask me.

Do You Like the Ottawa RedBlacks Name?

So Ottawa once again has a Canadian Football League (CFL) team. This time, they’re calling themselves the RedBlacks. It’s a freaking ugly name! It’s so ugly I’d rather be confused and accept the stupid situation that we would have two Roughrider teams in merely a 9 team league as once had been! Continue reading

Leafs Lose in Time to Let Canadians See Chris Hadfield Land

I have new respect for the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Instead of trying to win Game 7 of their playoffs against the Boston Bruins in over time, they gave up the winning goal in time so the game could be off the air just time in for Canadians to see their beloved astronaut, Chris Hadfield, land in his return from the International Space Station.

The Leafs, clearly, put the interests of Canadians above theirs, knowing not all Canadians are Leaf fans… but that all Canadians, are Chris Hadfield fans. 🙂

Chris is a Leafs fan, though. He won’t be happy to hear that upon coming back to Earth. However, he should be consoled and touched by the fact the Leafs lost for him.

Thanks, Leafs! Enjoy your summer. You’ll get the karma back in your golf games.
