Ship Sailing to Mi’kmaq Star
DESCRIPTION
“On a white field, a bright blue schooner on the fly half sails towards a red Mi’kmaq star in the canton.”
REFERENCES
The schooner represents Mahone Bay’s long shipbuilding and maritime history, with the symbol chosen being of its most well known historic shipbuilder. The Mi’kmaq star represents the Indigenous People via a single colour version of a popular symbol that is not a sacred symbol. The Indigenous representation was asked for by many during online consultations, even though there isn’t a significant Indigenous presence in town today, as was a flag version without any of the churches for which Mahone Bay is arguably best known. Otherwise, the bright colours reflect the town’s colourful look.

This is a personal project I have been doing for a year, not an effort by the municipality or its citizens.
