Flag Finalist 1 for Mahone Bay, NS

MAHONE BAY, NS

Finalist 1
Pics, Sand Glass, or Churches

DESCRIPTION
“On a white background, a blue wavy is at the bottom and an inverse like motif is at the top in orange of a dawn or dusk sky cut away by white clouds. In between are three equilateral triangles with rounded corners in red, black, and green from hoist to fly.”

REFERENCES
The blue and orange can be interpreted in two ways: as water coming on shore, frothing before the orange sand, or as water coming on shore, the shore, leading up to white clouds in front of an orange sky. In the former, the triangles represent sand glass that can be found on the beaches, while in the latter, the triangles represent the three churches on Mahone Bay’s waterfront for which it is known, as well as wigwams by Indigenous settlers, with Mahone Bay residents frequently asking for Indigenous representation in consultation. Mahone Bay is also a very colourful town, represented by all the colours, and it has a vibrant music scene represented by the triangles shaped like pics for guitars and similar stringed instruments.

This is a personal project I have been doing for a year, not an effort by the municipality or its citizens.
