Proposed Flag for Village of Phoenix, NY – Design A1

VILLAGE OF PHOENIX, NY (USA)
Design A1
Minimal Syracuse nod

This is a real design entry requested by the Village of Phoenix, not a theoretical project like all but two of my Nova Scotian municipal designs are at this time.

With little information found about the Village of Phoenix, I came up with what I call a metaphorical geographic, or “metageo”, design. Unlike a geographic design that can function as a map to some degree, this only has symbols for the geographic areas represented in some minimalistic reality. Here, that is geographical nesting using flags of the regions nested. A circular phoenix in Syracuse orange is inside a pentagonal fort shape of the Oswego county seal, on a New York State flag field of dark blue. The Greater Syracuse metropolitan area that envelopes Oswego County has been left out to keep the design simple.

REFERENCE
The Village of Phoenix of New York State is located in Oswego County, which is one of three counties in the Greater Syracuse Metropolis. Additionally, the Village lies in the southwest part of the town of Schroeppel in Oswego County. The Village has a population of 2,382 in the 2010 census, and is named after Alexander Phoenix, not in reference to a great fire, though it did have one in 1916. Ironically, the Village of Phoenix lies in the Lake Ontario lake-effect snow belt, with seasonal snow totals regularly exceeding 200 inches (510 cm). Minimal branding exists for the Village, with it and other relevant symbols drawn upon for the design in the second picture of the post.
