MAHONE BAY, NS (Canada)
Design 4b
Square Cross
This was just a much more distinctive version of Design 4a. The flag shape is square rather than 2:1 ratio rectangular of 4a that is typical of most Canadian flags for any level of jurisdiction. The square shape provided square quadrants that are better suited to hold symbolic icons often squarish or circular in outline shape, letting them be larger in appearance, with less wasted space, than in the quadrants of the long 2:1 dimension ratio flags. The symbols in the four quadrants are the same as those in Design 4a, but the backgrounds have more colours, one for each icon that is different from other icons. The blue and green from Design 4a were retained as colours, with Canadian flag red for the maple leaf associated with that flag, and black for music notes that are normally rendered in black on white paper or screen background for highest contrast, clarity, and lowest costs.
Constructive criticisms welcomed. Thank you.
REFERENCE
Mahone Bay is a small town of about 1000 residents on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. It is a picturesque tourism destination, especially the iconic three churches along the waterfront of the bay itself, though there are five churches in the town! It has a historic boat/ship building heritage, with more transport and industrial ships in the past, and more pleasure crafts in the present, from all materials but especially wood historically. It is also a current haven for entrepreneurs and business startups growing its population.
