Watson and I

Image for Watson and I postcard story

Almost a year ago this month, I wrote my first “postcard stories” (500 words or fewer), for a contest by Geist magazine. I had submitted five entries, but could only show the pictures of the “postcards” I had chosen with my entries since I couldn’t publish the entries and still be eligible for judging. A year later, I found out I didn’t place first to third, but did get one postcard story short listed! A thrill for me being a new writer and someone who is consistently told he couldn’t write succinctly! Maybe not if I didn’t work hard at it, but I definitely can! Here is that postcard story, with the others to come soon. I hope you like it! Give it a chance. It’s only 500 words… including the title! 🙂

If you liked these postcard stories and wanted to see others I had submitted, please click here.

My First Chatbot! (built without code!)

I recently completed IBM’s FREE CB0103EN course called Building a Chatbot, and produced my first chatbot that can be found on a WordPress powered site here. Look for the purple icon in the lower right if you were accessing on a tablet or computer.

I can’t believe this technology is available at this simple a level for the masses now! IBM Watson Conversation is what powers this chatbot, and it’s pretty impressive!

Harry Potter 7, the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Wallpapers for iPad & iPad2 (1024×1024 pixels)

Would it be appropriate to wish all the Potterheads out there Happy Harry Potter Movie Day knowing It All Ends Here with the last of the Harry Potter movie installments?

Do you really believe this will really be it given all its successes?

That’s a debate for some other time, but in the meanwhile, here are some Harry Potter 7, Deathly Hallows Part 2 wallpapers for the iPad and iPad2 (same screen size). There are lots of HP 7-2 wallpapers out there, but not many for the iPad. Why? I don’t know. Maybe there isn’t a lot of demand for some. But in case there is, below are some properly designed iPad wallpapers that are 1024 x 1024 pixels.

I’ll be back Sunday with a whole slew of HP 7-2 wallpapers for all other monitor sizes.

Btw, why aren’t there promotional graphics for characters like Albus Dumbledore and Luna Lovegood?

Enjoy! And tell me how you liked the movie cause I have to watch HP 1 to 7-1 first. 🙂

147 Harry Potter Backgrounds for the iPhone, iTouch, iPod Touch and Palm Pre (320×480 pixels)

Nov 30 2010 update

I’m still working to add more! I’d have put them all in two or more sets to keep things manageable, but that would have just driven some users crazy to flip back and forth to compare so I will include all the wallpapers here. When I am done adding, I will take off this note.

I will also label and organize the wallpapers by characters a bit better.

These Harry Potter backgrounds are meant for all models of the iPhone, iTouch, iPod Touch and Palm Pre. However, you can also use these as profile pictures in Facebook or other applications that do not require a square picture.

The wallpaper size is 480 x 320 pixels, or similar in ratio to a 6″ x 4″ photo. Apple and Palm went the size ratio of typical photos that people take.

My contribution to these wallpapers was the choice of cropping to get a nice picture, resizing to properly fit the iPhone, iPod Touch, iTouch and Palm Pre screens, with some touch up to remove certain background, adjust punch of colour, etc. The small size of these wallpapers allowed for some beautiful close-up cropping of the monitor wallpapers I only wish I had resolution for to make printable pictures from to share! There are going to be some seriously stunning iPhones, iTouch, iPod Touch and Palm Pre out there with some of these and other wallpapers I plan to be making for them!

Enjoy!
