I just got back from a fantastic vacation in Nawlins (New Orleans) where I spent 2 weeks with my Parents in their life to see what their life was like there, not zipping around, doing crazy things and such Nawlins is infamous for. Of course, I did a little fabric shopping while there. Being a bit out in the suburbs, I wasn’t close to a lot of fabric stores except Hancock Fabrics and the fabric sections in several Wal-mart stores. Yet, this was great because they had what I was looking for, which was a lot of licenced “geek” themed fabrics at affordable prices not found in Canada… or at least in Halifax where I live. As a result of all that, my fabric shopping haul this time probably won’t interest too many of my lady friends in the Atlantic Sewing Guild. It is the year of the Horse, Wooden Horse if you want to be more specific. Below are some predictions for the Chinese Year of the Wooden Horse that will cover most of the 2014 Roman calendar year. That’s aside from the Denver Broncos winning the Super Bowl in a few days, of course, with the team symbol being that of a horse. 🙂
Options Instead of the Extra Point for the NFL and CFL
In North American football, the extra point is a single point short kick after a 6 point touchdown to give the full 7 point value a touchdown can give a team. The full 7 points also makes the touchdown more valuable than two field goals, at 3 points each, in not only concept but also score. Otherwise, the extra point is also a second chance to cheer loudly for the touchdown just scored if it were your team to have done so.
Once upon a time, the extra point used to require an actual effort so it was not a sure thing by any means. However, these days, it has a success rate of over 99% according to New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. It has become too easy for the players playing to execute it that it not only becomes boring, it’s also a waste of time. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King feels the same way about it, calling it “the biggest waste of time in sports”. Nothing in sports should be that automatic, basically. What kind of competition is there if the outcome was the same more than 99% of the time?
My Extroversion Resolution
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2014 will bring you much joy and prosperity!
As usual, I have a slate of resolutions to aim for in a continual effort to improve myself and my life. Instead of blogging them all at once, though, I thought I would just blog one at a time every now and then. If anyone were inspired to do the same thing, there are no rules to say they can’t take it up part way through the year, so there is no need to blog all my resolutions at once. Besides, it would be a very long post because I don’t just have statement sort of resolutions, I have plans to help make them happen. I also have indicators to track their progress and success. That’s how resolutions should be done if people wanted a better chance of making them happen. It’s all in the details! Finally, some support others so not all are stand alone resolutions, either.
