Happy St Patrek’s Day!

I was in a St Patrick’s Day Parade with Hal-Con, the Halifax Comic Con group. For it, I created this Star Trek, the Next Generation jacket.

It is triple layered with pant weight, fleece and broadcloth on the outside. The dark green was a fourth layer. As it turned out, I needed all the layers as it was -8 C during the parade! I put jeweled shamrock in place of the Trek insignia, and had pips on during the parade with pointed ears.

“Red shirts get killed. Green shirts get lucky.”

Let’s Be Irrational for Pi Day! (March 14)

Pi Day is observed on March 14th each year, when the month and day (3.14) make up the first 3 digits of the mathematical constant π (pi). Popular ways to celebrate Pi Day include eating pie and discussing the importance of the number. But you know what? That’s SO boring and, well, predictable… and especially ironic considering Pi is an irrational number. That means Pi’s decimals digits are never repeating or “predictable”, since if it did ever repeat, it would become predictable as you had seen the pattern before!

I propose something a helluva lot funner… and harder, to truly celebrate Pi Day and give it its dues. BE IRRATIONAL ALL DAY ON PI DAY!

And how does one go about being irrational?

Help Me With My Fashionable Earth Day Goal for 2012

Happy Earth Day, everyone!

In the past, I have set annual Earth Day goals to work on for the “environmental year”. For example, I pledged to reduce my possessions by 3X my weight in 2009. I still don’t own a car and rarely ever take a cab, opting for public transit and walking mostly… by choice. I recycle a lot. I’ve become much better at energy usage than before, including turning off just about everything any time I’m away for more than 3 days. The freezer is usually the exception. I eat more locally and seasonally now, and so on. I plan to upkeep all this, of course, but have one more thing to add for the 2012-13 “environmental year”.

With my new foray into sewing and fashion since last fall, though, this will be the area of my Earth Day environmental focus for this upcoming “environmental year”. Below is what I plan to do to start. However, because I need to do a lot more research in this, I will have to add more specifics as I go along. Any suggestions anybody’s got is much appreciated. Thanks!
