Definition: Arhythmetics, AI Winter, Racial Passing

I’m currently learning new words and terms at a pretty good clip due to the winter that is giving me lots of cause to stay indoors and learn. I’m also trying to absorb world art history as quickly as I can from Khan Academy, before I really get into painting because I want to compose and paint with that reference background! As a result, I’ve got words for about a month’s worth of posts.

So here we go!

 

Definition: Narrow and General AI (artificial intelligence)

Narrow AI (artificial intelligence)

Artificial intelligence that is generally good at only one task or one task at a time. Compare to General AI that is good at many and multiple tasks at once, like the AI you see in science-fiction that is quite far away from the AI we have today, as awesome as it may seem (or fearsome to some people).

The Future of AI According to Obama and I

Recently, President Barack Obama and MIT Professor Joi Ito were interviewed by Wired magazine about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on our future lives. What the President and Professor Ito said are below, which were very enlightening to me. For what it’s worth, I’ll put my two cents afterward, adding a few other observations.

(apologies to Professor Ito for leaving him out of the title but it took away the ring and rhyme with too many more syllables)
