Shopping for Fabric and Notions in the Los Angeles Fashion District

Last November, I had the opportunity to visit the Los Angeles Fashion District (LAFD). It was a great experience that was very different from what I experienced in New York’s Fashion District (NYFD) in Manhattan. I visited both in search of fabrics and notions, not pre-made clothes that I’m not sure would better fit me or my small budget. It is in these contexts that I want to share with you what I found. Fashion Designer Spotlight: Alexander McQueen (and Sarah Burton)

Alexander McQueenFor January, I’m choosing to focus on some works I’ve seen a lot of lately, which is that of Alexander McQueen. However, much to my shock, in gathering profile material for this post, I found out he’s been deceased for almost 3 years (Feb 11 2010). Hey, I never said I was a fashionista up to date on all the news! I just look at some of the fashion where I find it and learn from it. Anyway, I’ve been seeing a lot of Alexander McQueen’s work done by Sarah Burton, who had taken the reins of the Alexander McQueen line. That does not mean this post has been wrongly attributed, though. A lot of what I saw of Alexander McQueen’s work which appealed to me go back before his death. There’s just also been a lot of it after his death as well.

New Orleans Saints Designer Fleece Jacket

This is the New Orleans Saints fleece jacket I just completed. A full zipper up jacket lined with anti-static Bemberg fleece so I won’t get electrocuted wearing it, and not just a fleece vest unlined like so much fleece wear you find. The project was the most inefficient and challenging I’ve taken up to date because I was trying too many new things at the same time. Continue reading
