Last post, I analyzed the impact of gun control legislation and changes on gun related deaths, as shown by statistics. I analyzed it in a lot of details, because that was required. But for those not interested in all the details, the summary was this. The impact was clear that the Brady Bill had a major impact to lower gun related deaths per year and per capita by about 25% ! See 1994-1999 part of analysis in link above. That impact, one would think, had to do with the background checks required. That was true. But what was surprising was something in the process of that check.

A Case for More Gun Control Using Gun Lobbyist Data
I owe this post to a pro-gun friend who debated me on more gun control. His arguments and stats used, including the graph below, led me to do the degree of research I did to counter, which I used here. I didn’t convince him, which I didn’t expect to, but you can judge for yourself from what I present following. I thought it might be valuable for people to understand the flaws in many anti-gun control, if not pro-gun, arguments presented, coming from someone who does analysis of all sorts for a living.
I was shown the graph below with data showing why tighter gun control was not the solution to America’s gun problem with gun related deaths and incidents. What I, as a professional analyst, saw, instead, was the very reasons why America needs tighter gun control. I will also counter a bunch of other points brought up by gun lobbyists that doesn’t involve data, because it isn’t just about the data, of course. But let’s first look at one graph with lots of data.

How Many Must Be Killed in One Tragedy Before US Gun Control Laws Get Changed?
There are mass shootings frequently in the United States. Each time, there is an outcry for gun control laws. Each time, it dies like a victim in those shootings. 32 died at Virginia Tech. Nothing has changed there.
Naturally, the bigger the tragedy, the bigger the outcry. Yet, it has made no difference in the end, and we just wait for the next shocker.
What I want to know is how many people killed at an incident before you think any change to US gun control laws can be seen?
Do we need 50? Do we need to break the century barrier?
Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections
This is my first WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge. The theme this week is Reflections, and I happen to have TWO such photos. Please click on photos to enlarge.
The first is of a motorbike reflected in the chrome engine of another motorbike. It was a bike framed within a part of a bike, if you will. This photo was taken on the Halifax Waterfront where many bikers congregate on many days during the years, even when it’s rather cold.
The second photo has the steeple of St. Mary’s Basilica in Halifax, framed in a tall, church like glass window of a building next to it. In November, when the photo was taken, it was just cold enough that all the windows were closed to provide a full reflection, but not cold enough for there to be any frost to ruin the perfect reflection. I thought the counter-themed church seen in a window, rather than something seen in a church window, was a nice composition. I also had to get out in the middle of an intersection to get just the right angle to frame that steeple reflection in that window!
These two photos were among the first I ever took with a digital SLR camera, back on November 18, 2006. It was the second set of photos I took with a digital SLR. After a cross-country race where I first put that camera to use, I just got out to walk around downtown near where I lived to see what I could find to shoot. What I immediately realized with a camera was that I saw the world through a completely different lens doing photography, pun intended. I noticed things I never did before. I saw beauty in things and people I never saw before. And I saw it all at a much greater level, even in what I had noticed before.
To What Music Should I Listen When I Fly?
I’ll be going on one of these vacations where there will be a lot of flying and I was wondering if people would recommend some music for all that flying time. I’m not looking for music I might like, or just to pass the time away. Flying is an incredible experience to me, no matter how many times I’ve flown now, and I want to keep enhancing the experience with some appropriate music.
