Happy holidays, everyone!
Just sit back and enjoy this video of some amazing swing dancing by this older couple. It’s not amazing because it involves acrobatics, or fireworks, or extraordinary physical ability. It’s rather likely if most people put enough practice into swing dancing, they could probably dance like this. But it sure looks fantastic and like a ton of fun!
For my work Christmas party for kids this year, I came up with the idea to teach kids some jazz line dancing after having learned the Shim Sham.
I would simplify it, though, so kids would have fun and not get frustrated. Then I put it in terms they could understand rather than the jazz dance step names to make things. Here’s what I came up with.
This fall, I started to learn swing dancing, Lindy Hop more specifically. I am absolutely loving it, but not just for the dancing. The music is also absolutely phenomenal. I knew of some of the songs played before, but I’ve also not heard many, so I am also engaged in finding good music I had never heard. It was during one of these sessions to build my Swing play list on Spotify that I found this awesome gem called the Oriental Swing that’s a little racist, but totally acceptable to me (an Asian) considering it was done in 1938. 🙂
On Facebook, you get notices of your Facebook friends’ birthdays. Most people just write “happy birthday”. A few add the person’s name to the comment. The occasional one will add an additional sentence or two. For the most part, it is pretty superficial, seeming to be an automatic and generic action.
One way you can suddenly stand out in a lot of ways, without a lot of work, is just think of a song you’d like to send that person. Continue reading
I heard this song for the first time today, Donna the Prima Donna by Dion and the Del-Satins. They sure don’t write’em or sing’em like they used to!
