Lots of people have been making Bernie Sanders’ mitten memes in the past few days (see my analysis of them here), and LOTS more have been enjoying them! As a maker of slightly oversized mittens that get a lot of attention when I wear them, I thought, why not show them off like Bernie did? Don’t just make the meme, be the meme! So with my friend Edgar, I took a folding chair outside of my building, and assumed the pose to get a few pics below. And then I thought, as I often do for most things I do, why couldn’t other people do the same? I mean, lots of people would have fun and beautiful and awesome mittens to show the world. This is the perfect moment to show them, and this is the perfect way to show them!

DIPPERS Tuque
While I was in Alaska last fall, inspired by their flag which had the Big Dipper constellation and Polaris, the North Star, on it, I had the idea of making a tuque with the same constellation and more. Namely, I was going to illustrate one of the more popular astronomical navigation descriptives that involved not only the Big Dipper, but also the Little Dipper. I was going to do this on a tuque because it’s generally spherical, like the night sky. There was no more perfect a garment canvas than a tuque!
BAT Pillowcases
It’s been almost 4 years since I’ve made pillowcases, but I just enjoyed the thought of laying my head down into a pasture with cows so much at night I didn’t want to give it up!
TARTAN Toque and Scotia Mittens Doubled Layered Fleece Set
This matching set of double layered fleece toque and mittens is based on the Nova Scotia (NS) tartan. Not being Scottish but living in Nova Scotia, I can only claim the NS tartan as my own to wear. Fortunately for me, it’s not only easy to find compared to any other clan or province’s tartan out there, it’s also my favourite tartan! With patriotic garments always popular with many, it was only a matter of time before I’d get myself a set of these tartan toque and mittens. I figured I shouldn’t wait so here they are!
PUZZLE Toque and JIGSAW Mittens Double Layered Fleece Set
I’ve been making double fleece toque and mittens winter sets to revamp some of my winter wardrobe. I have a horrible collection of mismatched toques, gloves and mittens that don’t often even fit well, so I was in desperate need of some of these garments. I’ve decided I would make 5 sets with different feel and impressions for various times and events, as well as variety and fun. This is the first set I’m showing.
