Flag Finalist 1 for Oxford, NS

OXFORD, NS

Finalist 1
Canadian Blueberry

DESCRIPTION
β€œA blueberry larger than the flag is cut off by the hoist, and top and bottom of about 1/4 of the flag width from the hoist. The stem pit of this large blueberry is an identically smaller blueberry, repeated infinitely like a fractal. In the middle is a white close crop of the Canadian flag maple leaf from its base almost to its top, while the remainder of the flag is light blue.”

REFERENCES
Oxford’s moniker is the wild blueberry capital of Canada, so the blueberry and Canadian flag maple leaf represent those two aspects. The light blue on the flag represents the waters of the three rivers that flow through Oxford. Originally, I had made the fly or right most section red, like the Canadian flag, even though it was reminiscent of an old oil and gas company in Canada known as Petro Canada. However, a Reddit user, during my online consultations, suggested it should be light blue so as not to be so jarring and competitive with the blueberry. Canada has already been referenced with the Canadian maple leaf cutaway so the red was redundant…. and he was spot on, so thank you!

This is a personal project I have been doing for a year, not an effort by the municipality or its citizens.
