Flag Finalist 3 for Port Hawkesbury, NS

PORT HAWKESBURY, NS

Finalist 3
X Marks the Spot

DESCRIPTION
“A geographical 2:1 flag of medium blue on the hoist side, and white for the rest, in a golden ratio with the white being the wider portion. In the white is an X of dark blue border and bright green interior, with the shape formed from four capital Ms, each pointing in directions bisecting the cardinal directions.”

REFERENCES
Colours used are Town colours, with the blue represents the Strait of Canso to the west of Port Hawkesbury, while the white represents the land on which the Town is located. The X is a symbol for prosperity, and also marks the spot where the town is located, as represented by the X that also has an X in its interior. The Golden Ratio of the blue and white areas also reinforces the prosperity of the X multiplier symbolism. Finally, depending on the flag the Town of Mulgrave on the other side of the Strait of Canso chooses, I have designed a similar version of this flag for Mulgrave in its Town colours, with the background being a mirror image. This was because Mulgrave is on the other side of the Strait of Canso, and it and Port Hawkesbury have had a long history together as transportation hubs on their respective sides of the Strait of Canso, connected by a ferry for many decades.

This is a personal project I have been doing for a year, not an effort by the municipality or its citizens.
