Flag Finalist 2 for Port Hawkesbury, NS

PORT HAWKESBURY, NS

Finalist 2
Port aerial

DESCRIPTION
“A geographical 2:1 flag of dark blue ocean background, with a vertical band of bright green land on the fly edge. In the blue, a small white boat heads home towards land, as seen from above, leaving a triangular wake behind it. In the wake is a white hawk head looking to the fly towards land, where the boat is heading to be in alignment, rather than to the hoist per heraldic conventions.”

REFERENCES
The blue represents the Strait of Canso to the west of Port Hawkesbury, while the light green represents the land on which the Town is located. The boat is heading home or into port, as people would prefer to see sailors coming home rather than leaving. A hawk head represents the Hawkesbury portion of the port name, with the hawk being the only real symbol the Town has used over the years for itself. The colours are Town colours.

This is a personal project I have been doing for a year, not an effort by the municipality or its citizens.
