PORT HAWKESBURY, NS
Finalist 1
Hawk in Nautical P
DESCRIPTION
“A dark blue hawk sits inside a 2:1 ratio variation of the square Nautical flag for the letter P comprising of a medium blue border and white interior.”
REFERENCES
Port Hawkesbury doesn’t have any strong symbols associated with it other than a hawk in a few very detailed, illustration format. As such, a stylized hawk was chosen for the flag. Since it is a port, a nautical flag reference was used, in the 2:1 Canadian flag ratio since it is a Canadian municipality, with the logical nautical flag letter being P for Port given a hawk represents the Hawkesbury part of the municipality’s name. This nautical P flag design with a symbol at centre could theoretically be used as a systematic flag design for all ports, where a symbol of the specific port appears at centre, preferably in one or two colours, and all the colours could be the port colour scheme rather than the nautical blue and white for border and interior, respectively. However, the blue and white does bring more recognizability to the nautical P flag.
This is a personal project I have been doing for a year, not an effort by the municipality or its citizens.
