KENTVILLE, NS
Finalist 1
The People’s Flag bid
Instead of showing the Instagram post where this design was shown, I will show it AND the TikTok post that encompassed the Instagram post with the same features, without need for the user to scroll, and added some music. I have chosen the same music for all finalists in a given set so as not to have the music influence the designs differently. The Instagram post is at the end if you preferred to see some information for different amounts of time than the TikTok post. Progression in my presentation! I have also gone back to update the finalist flag posts for Middleton to show the same thing.
DESCRIPTION
“An apple blossom is at the centre of a river stylized like the silhouette of railway tracks, with white fimbriation in between to leave the lush land shores to resemble battlements atop a castle, formed from 13 horizontal segments, of which 6 are indented at a golden ratio to the width.”
REFERENCES
The apple blossom represents the town, its people, and the Apple Blossom festival for which the town is known. The railway and battlement references the railway hub the town once was, with the Main Street station rooftop built like castle battlements. A river runs into the town located in the lush Annapolis Valley. The battlement segmentation of 13 and 6 (ominous numbers) references Kentville’s past name as the Devil’s Half Acre, while the golden ratio sides counterbalances that with a divine feature. Please note: Kentville revealed it had a flag after I had designed these, but a friend there (@nicegirlmeanlegs) will be flying this to see if residents will like it enough to make it the People’s flag, independent of the government flag that uses the Town crest.
