INVERNESS COUNTY, NS
Design D1
Coastline abstraction
I am not a fan of oversimplified and abstract flags with just shapes and generic symbols. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t think like that. While this design appears late in the sequence to present things in some sort of rational and orderly way, it was actually generated early when I was desperate for ideas on what to do with that awkward logo (third pic of post). I was thinking something along the lines of a coastline image with the sea, highlands, a highway that is an incredibly scenic drive, and the sky. This was a true flag style abstraction of that coastline, with attempts to make it more interesting with curves, like 3 for the ocean, 2 for the highway, and one for the highlands, only turned out ugly and trashed for this simpler design. The original had a light, secondary branding blue, for the sky (second pic), but since I found out about the sunset coast moniker as described in Design C5, I switched it to an orange stripe for a more interesting and novel design.

REFERENCE
Inverness County, Nova Scotia, is one of four counties on the island of Cape Breton. It has a population of about 17,000 in a land area of 3817 sq km (1474 sq miles). The county is known for its three main things. The first is its Scottish/Gaelic heritage, with some Acadian history in villages such as Cheticamp, and Irish influence. The second is its beautiful scenery of the Cape Breton highlands, often bordering the ocean with scenic cliffs, look offs, and drives. Finally, it has a strong musical scene and reputation of fiddling, Scottish, and Irish music and dancing. For these reasons, it was branded as “Canada’s musical coast”, with a logo to match.
