INVERNESS COUNTY, NS

Musical and sunset coast
So here’s why I do online consultations of my flag ideas online with the general public, as well as experts in the North American Vexillological Association. My audience for the former often knows something about these places I’m designing flag ideas for, given I consult on the Nova Scotia sub-Reddit or local Facebook groups rather than vexillology related groups. The general public opinion might be uninformed, at times, but if you want to appeal to popular opinion, you have to get the popular opinion, not the expert opinion. Here, a reviewer with the handle Planetearthling told me Inverness County is also known as the Sunset Coast (and provided proof). As such, he said, I could make the sky orange for an additional symbol rather than just a generic blue sky. Well! Not only is that true, it also creates a nice and novel colour scheme to make the flag more distinctive! So this design owes something to that user. Thank you!

REFERENCE
Inverness County, Nova Scotia, is one of four counties on the island of Cape Breton. It has a population of about 17,000 in a land area of 3817 sq km (1474 sq miles). The county is known for its three main things. The first is its Scottish/Gaelic heritage, with some Acadian history in villages such as Cheticamp, and Irish influence. The second is its beautiful scenery of the Cape Breton highlands, often bordering the ocean with scenic cliffs, look offs, and drives. Finally, it has a strong musical scene and reputation of fiddling, Scottish, and Irish music and dancing. For these reasons, it was branded as “Canada’s musical coast”, with a logo to match.
