MAHONE BAY, NS
7A and 7B new Round 2 designs without (top) and with (bottom) First Nations representation
Looking long enough at those diamond abstraction of the 3 churches in Mahone Bay and their reflections, I realized a lozenge field would be the perfect complement for them, with another bright colour added to the mix for the artsy and vibrant nature of the town. The Mi’kmaq star in yellow, with black trim for contrast to the white, furthered that theme with an important new symbol! That star is actually a sun symbolizing unity. Its full colours are black (west), white (north), yellow (east), and red (south), but I had seen it depicted in one colour like here, or one colour with black outline. These would have been the perfect design with that triangular churches logo, but the logo does not have big support, and seems on its way out with a new logo development committee formed and recent contest with 60 submissions. We’ll see where this goes.
REFERENCE
Mahone Bay is a small town of about 1000 residents on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. It is a picturesque tourism destination, especially the iconic three churches along the waterfront of the bay itself, though there are five churches in the town! It has a historic boat/ship building heritage, with more transport and industrial ships in the past, and more pleasure crafts in the present, from all materials but especially wood historically. It is also a current haven for entrepreneurs and business startups growing its population.
