MIDDLETON, NS (Canada)
Design 2b
Green M Intersection Heart
This geographic Design 2b takes this style to its ultimate conclusion by replacing, both, the colours around the roads to green for lush lands, and the town logo with a heart that is more appealing and universal. All the land on the map was kept McIntosh green to help highlight the red heart, even though much of the land south of the arching highway, at the scale rendered, is not part of the apple growing Annapolis Valley and should be more accurately rendered symbolically in a darker green. However, that only complicated the flag and was not done. Otherwise, there is not enough water geography below the arching highway to render any significant area below it blue in a different flag design in this style.
Constructive criticisms welcomed. Thank you.
REFERENCE
Middleton is a small town of just under 2000 in the Annapolis Valley, NS, with its south side bordering the Annapolis River. Located half way between Halifax & the southern most town of Yarmouth, if travelling through the Valley, the town was renamed Middleton in 1854 to reflect this. However, said highway technically passes north of Middleton, not through it. Another highway from Bridgewater ends in Middleton, but does not technically connect it to the highway between Halifax and Yarmouth like the town is considered to be located at the intersection of these highways. Middleton’s moniker, The Heart of the Valley, is a bit more accurate, earned from its relative location in the abundant, apple growing Annapolis Valley, as well as its past contributions to the area. Middleton really plays on this moniker, with everything from its logo to big heart shapes being behind some of its street signs.
