MIDDLETON, NS (Canada)
Design 1e
Green Intersection Heart
A great piece of flag design advice I got from Ted Kaye was to remove at least 1 feature from what you think is your ideal flag design because you probably put on too many (per Coco Chanel). To that end, this design was that advice applied to Design 1d, where I removed the blue for the Annapolis River south of town. While key, if the focus is on the heart of the Valley, then leave all the land around Middleton to be the Valley, relatively thin rivers included. Also, from what little I know of Middleton, I think it’s more a red, white & bright green kind of town, despite its British origins and red, white, navy town colours. Or at least not a four colour traditional town with a little life.
Constructive criticisms welcomed. Thank you.
REFERENCE
Middleton is a small town of just under 2000 people in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, with its entire south side bordering the Annapolis River. Located half way between Halifax and the southern tip town of Yarmouth, if travelling through the Valley, the town was renamed Middleton in a vote in 1854 to reflect this. However, said highway from Halifax to Yarmouth technically passes north of Middleton, not through it. Another important highway from Bridgewater on the South Shore, ends in Middleton, but does not technically connect it to the highway between Halifax and Yarmouth in Middleton like the town is considered to be located at the intersection of these highways. Middleton’s moniker, The Heart of the Valley, is a bit more accurate, earned from its relative location in the abundant, apple growing Annapolis Valley, as well as its past contributions to the area. Middleton really plays on this moniker, with everything from its logo to big heart shapes being behind some of its street signs.
