MIDDLETON, NS (Canada)
Design 1b
McIntosh Green Intersection
This geographic Design 1b is like 1a, except the area around the town and highways are McIntosh apple green to represent not only the lush lands around town, but lush lands of the Valley for growing apples.
Constructive criticisms welcomed. Thank you.
REFERENCE
Middleton is a small town of just under 2000 people in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, with its entire south side bordering the curves of the Annapolis River. Located half way between the provincial capital of Halifax and the southern tip town of Yarmouth, if travelling through the Valley instead of the South Shore, the town was renamed Middleton in a vote in 1854 to reflect this geographic circumstance. However, said highway from Halifax to Yarmouth technically passes north of Middleton, not through it. Another important highway from Bridgewater on the South Shore, ends in Middleton, but does not technically connect it to the highway between Halifax and Yarmouth in Middleton like the town is considered to be located at the intersection of these highways. Middleton’s moniker, The Heart of the Valley, is a bit more accurate, earned from its relative location in the abundant, apple growing Annapolis Valley, as well as its past contributions to the area. Middleton really plays on this moniker, with everything from its logo to big heart shapes being behind some of its street signs.
