Proposed Flag for Mahone Bay – Design 5c

MAHONE BAY, NS (Canada)
Design 5c
Canton Star

This final design is an alternative to the same objectives Designs 5a and 5b fulfilled, to include symbolism of the churches as well as additional symbols representing Mahone Bay. This design was executed with a canton field, where the canton and remaining section served as a window into a scene of a boat sailing on water, with the water edge being the wavy bottom of the canton. This scene directly paid homage to the boat building industry past and present in Mahone Bay, as well as boating recreation currently big there. Hence, the modern sailboat. The original design of the wavy canton bottom is a subtle nod to the artsy nature of the town. In the rest of the flag of ocean (NS flag) blue, the star symbol for the five churches from Design 3b is shown, also like an island to represent the many in the actual bay of Mahone Bay. Within this star, a scarecrow icon for the town’s famous scarecrow festival, stands in a mystical fashion in the upside down pentagonal space normally associated with pentagrams and mysticism that is anything but Christian like the churches represented in the star tip.

Constructive criticisms welcomed. Thank you.

REFERENCE
Mahone Bay is a small town of about 1000 residents on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. It is a picturesque tourism destination, especially the iconic three churches along the waterfront of the bay itself, though there are five churches in the town! It has a historic boat/ship building heritage, with more transport and industrial ships in the past, and more pleasure crafts in the present, from all materials but especially wood historically. It is also a current haven for entrepreneurs and business startups growing its population.
